The Moon Court had survived the shadow invasion, but peace was… awkward.
Asteria sat on a balcony overlooking the glowing rivers of Lyria, Puff curled on her lap. Her magic still thrummed faintly, like a purring engine of stars.
Kael approached quietly. "You're up early."
"I wasn't," Asteria muttered, though she hadn't slept well. The dreams of shadows lingered.
"You look… tired," Kael said softly.
Asteria blinked at him. "It's called being alive, Your Moon-ness."
Kael smirked. "I'm pretty sure it's called still thinking about me."
Her face heated. "What?! No! I was… um… thinking about the Wraiths!"
Kael laughed. "Right. Totally about shadows."
The teasing warmth between them was… undeniable. Asteria couldn't stop the smile tugging at her lips.
Meanwhile, Lunevar appeared behind them, rolling his eyes. "Oh, please. Can you two stop staring at each other long enough to help rebuild the palace?"
"Rebuild? You mean the parts I vaporized?" Asteria asked innocently.
Lunevar groaned. "Exactly those parts."
Kael grabbed her hand. "We'll handle it together. Like we always do."
Asteria's heart fluttered. He wasn't just saying it—he meant it. Every chaotic, flustered, heroic word.
Suddenly, a messenger appeared, panting. "Princess Asteria! Prince Kael! Reports of… disturbances on the outer moon gardens. Strange energy readings!"
Asteria groaned. "Seriously?! I just got used to not exploding things!"
Kael grinned, taking her hand. "Well, I guess destiny doesn't take breaks either."
Puff leapt from her lap, meowing loudly as if agreeing.
Together, they walked toward the gardens, hands intertwined, hearts a little lighter, and spirits ready for whatever came next.
Asteria glanced at Kael. "You know… maybe the universe isn't trying to kill us all the time. Sometimes, it just… keeps us entertained."
Kael squeezed her hand. "Then I'm glad we're facing it together."
And as they stepped into the moonlight, side by side, destiny waited—silent, shimmering, and just a little bit amused.
