Chapter 4 - A childish teacher

May 7th

Monday

[8:41] Am

In Sanin academy a few teachers had been given nicknames by students, The Japanese language teacher had been given the nickname "Demon teacher", The History teacher is called, "He who curses", The PE teacher is called, "Pervert", and the Modern Japanese teacher, "The iron fist".

"IT'S THE IRON TEACHER!!!" Keigo Ishida yelled as he rushed into the classroom. His foreboding warning had sent shivers down all of the students' spines, at least those who were paying attention.

All the students at Sanin academy had been exposed to her torture techniques in their first years and were even more thoroughly educated in their, so far into, second year.

"Why is she coming here!?" One of the boys asked as he adjusted himself to sit straight up in his seat as did many other boys, even the group of gals that rarely paid attention fixed their posture and loose clothing.

"Maybe she's here to take over for Mr. Honekawa, he's still not here after all." One of the kids managed to squeeze out before the door to the classroom was screwed open with a heavy force.

Into the classroom stepped a woman who looked like a painting, she looked older than the students, maybe in her mid-20's or maybe she just looked young. It was hard to tell. She had long silky black hair that parted in the middle, leaving a bridge across her forehead. Her eyes were straight gray, lovely and warm. It was weird to say that about her considering her personality but she had warm eyes. It made sense why some boys in this class would fantasize about her. Her beauty contrasted with her personality. The gap was what entranced some people.

As she walked toward the podium in the front of the classroom, her white overcoat flowed in the wind she generated, it left behind a scent. A scent that most of the horny and lovestruck boys would describe as lovely as it belonged to a female that was attractive. Though for others it wasn't a good smell, especially for Kenichi who had always had a sensitive nose, he could smell it, cigarettes and alcohol. He hated that smell.

"Alright listen up brats," Hiratsuka-Sensei looked around the room to see one single student still standing up away from his seat, Rito Yuuki. She stared at him, he looked disappointed and shocked. He had done it, he had told her how he felt, he had confessed! But it didn't end the way he thought it would, Haruna didn't hear him and she had returned to her seat. Her only words to him were,

"Yukki-kun you should return to your seat before the teacher comes in." She bashfully said as she sat down.

"Rito Yukki, return to your seat." Hiratsuka-Sensei commanded

"..." He remained still, he didn't even respond, he had entered the land of bad reality where he just kept on seeing a vision of Haruna rejecting him and getting with another man, the man was always the same, a muscular hot guy he could never compete with. He was worthless. It was no wonder Haruna didn't want to be with him, he could never compete with nameless hot guy number 1!.

"Rito Yuuki, I said return to your seat!" Hiratsuka-Sensei commanded once more but after seeing him not move from where he stood, she decided to showcase her most powerful ability.

[Skull crush!]The user can grip an unwilling target temporarily invoking a paralyzing effect on them. Able to potentially do a little damage to the target if kept in clutch long enough.

"Wait! Wait! Hiratsuka-Sensei!" Kenichi stepped up in between the two of them hoping to prevent the death of his only friend. "I'll take him back to his seat, forgive him he's kinda out of it in the morning, you know how it goes. The older you get the worse mornings are." Kenichi was talking out of his ass, a skill he really hadn't perfected yet. Because he brought up the forbidden topic with Shizuka Hiritsuka, age.

"Oh, are you saying I'm old?" She asked, her anger plastered onto her face.

"...No, I sense I've made a mistake of some kind." Kenichi stepped back into one of the other students, and it was probably the worst person he could have bumped into. Risa Momioka, the girl in this class who hated Kenichi the most. She was the person responsible for Kenichi's nickname, Perverted Monkey.

"Hmm, you know teach, Saruyama here has often called you old behind your back. Says your, and these are his words, 'Too old to be teaching like a 20 year old.' I know it's hurtful, but it's the truth. Again his words." She smiled with a sneer as she twirled her short Light brown hair.

'This bitch!' Kenichi cursed inwardly as he saw his life flash before his eyes right as an iron grip got clutched around his head.

Hiratsuka-Sensei dragged Kenichi's limp body to the front of the class while Rito returned to his seat. When she got to the front of the class she propped up Kenichi, but didn't let go of his head with her iron grip.

(A.N. I realize that it might look like Kenichi has a system you often see in fanfics here, but he does not, this is more of a funny gag.)

"So Student Saruyama, since you think I'm too old to teach, why don't you do it?" She smiled without her eyes that now had a dark evil shadow hiding them.

"This…doesn't…seem responsible." Kenichi managed to squeeze out through his crushed head that was struggling to form any sort of coherent thought.

"Now what kinda topic was Mr. Honekawa teaching you guys?" She asked, loosening her grip on Kenichi.

"He was teaching us about historical literature, specifically Romeo and Juliet." Momioka said a smirk on her face thinking to herself about all the time that Kenichi had slept through class, there was no way he was gonna know anything about Romeo and Juliet or William Shakespeare for that matter.

"Really, Well…Saruyama-Sensei please tell us allllllll about Romeo and Juliet." Shizuka Hiratsuka was a lot of things. She was beautiful, compassionate, kind, easily angered, and petty when it came to age.

"Romeo and Juliet? We're learning about Romeo and Juliet? Damn the one time I actually know things." He mumbled under his breath as he looked at his classmates. He hadn't thought about it before since he only ever really looked forward but his classmates all looked really good looking for teenagers. It was kind of annoying. He was like the only ugly kid other than the 4 perverts in the black corner of the class, they were ugly and annoying.

"Um, soooo does anybody know what act we were on?" Kenichi asked while he searched the podium for a copy of the text, he couldn't find one but, that was fine for him, he had the entire thing memorized.

"Act 2 Scene 2, Saruyama-Sensei." The cat lipped student said with a laugh as he along with the other students pulled out their copies of the play.

"Oh the Capulets orchard scene. Though it is more well known for its famous quote, does anyone know what that is?" Kenichi asked, hoping that if he kept up his teaching act up long enough Hiratsuka-Sensei would let him return to his seat to sleep. It definitely helped that the topic was something he knew extremely well.

"..." Most of the students looked surprised, they hadn't expected Kenichi to actually attempt to teach. Nor did Hiratsuka-Sensei who now looked more surprised and curious to see where this was going to go.

"Uh, is it the 'Where art thou' when she's looking for Romeo in the garden." A female student asked with a confused vibe to her, she didn't know whether to answer or not but considering he was waiting for one she felt the need to answer.

"You are extremely close, Miss Onodera" Kenichi looked at the girl who answered, Kosaki Onodera, she had shoulder length chocolate colored hair and could be described as cute. "However you did get part of the quote along with the intention behind the words wrong. Juliet already knows where he is, he's not exactly hiding himself. And the quote is "Wherefore art thou Romeo?" Now it might seem nitpicky to call out but the wherefore instead of where is actually important to the intent behind the words. Can anyone tell me why that is such an important detail?" He looked at the class that was puzzled at the fact that Kenichi Saruyama, of all people, was teaching them, and well at that.

"No? Well I guess I can't blame you. It's kind of a weird thing. The word Wherefore isn't a question of where someone is, it is instead a question of why they are. I know it's weird but trust me it makes sense in context. Juliet is actually asking Romeo why he's a Montague. Why does the boy she's fallen in love with have to be an enemy of her family."

'Wow this kid actually knows his stuff.' Shizuka-Sensei thought as she saw that a few of the students were beginning to get engaged in his words.

"So then as you should have read through this scene can anyone tell me what Juliet proposes to Romeo?"

"She proposes!" Haruna was surprised by the bold move, especially considering that they had only met earlier that day.

"Haha, close but no cigar, Sairenji. She poses a question to Romeo, she asks him to 'Deny thy father and refuse thy name.' And if he does she will do the same. The two of them can run away together and be happy."

"But they don't end up running away together, by the end of the story Romeo and Juliet are dead, both by poison." Shu maiko, the cat lipped boy, said.

"Correct, they don't get a chance to run away together because Romeo ends up banished from the town due to somewhat of a misunderstanding. It makes more sense when you read it."

"Why don't they just run away when they're in the garden?" Onodera asked

"Well the real reason is because we need the story to happen, but in universe it's because the characters of Romeo and Juliet are kinda childish. They decide that to run away together they must be married. So they decide to wait to get married, and it inevitably leads them to the tragic ending of the story."

"Why do they want to get married before they run away?" Momioka asked, her eyes actually holding an interest in what Kenichi was talking about.

"Well as I said before they're childish. Keep in mind they're both only in their teens, 13 and 15-16 respectively. They believe that getting married will lead to their families stopping their fighting. And if they stop fighting, they can be together in peace."

"So why do they end up…dead?" Momioka asked, seeming to resonate a bit with the tragic setting of the story.

"Communication, it's entirely communication."

""Seriously!?"" The entire class basically screamed.

"Yep, they just needed to wait to hear from the Pope."

"Why didn't they!?" They asked

"They're childish, impatience is kinda coming up with it. A lot of William Shakespeare characters are like this. They either throw a fit when things don't go their way, Romeo and King Lear can be put in this category, and also maybe Macbeth though that was mostly his wife."

"..." The class didn't know what to say, what could they say? The idiot of their class was teaching them out of all things Shakespeare. So they did the only thing they could, they let him continue.

"Although it would be a bit unfair to call them childish, you see, Shakespeare wrote in the 1600s back then the average life span was around 40. Shakespeare himself only lived to 52. Today we have people living past a hundred. Back then people had to mature faster so there isn't really any real reason to hate on them for it. But even then is there really anything wrong with being a little childish? King Lear is often described as a fool but to be fair If I had been king for as long as he had and then wanted to pass on the throne I would also make sure my successor was going to do well, though he definitely stepped over a lot of lines. And for Macbeth well he had a lot of pressure and not to mention his wife who wasn't the best support for him. And last but certainly not least Romeo Montague, well he's a fool in love." Kenichi eyed Rito as he said the words, he had seen him be a fool in front of Haruna. "And love makes you say and do crazy things."
