Chapter 1 - The deadbeat and the dead

May 3rd

Saturday

[4:00] PM

The color yellow brightened the world, the sun's warm, yellow rays lightened the day. The white fluffy clouds parted to show the world the happy, jolly, wonderful, color yellow.

Contrary to Yellow, which is bright and amazing. There is a color that is often used to contrast brightness, black. The color that is often associated with darkness. While yellow is bright, black is dark. And on a bright warm sunny day like this no one should ever be wearing a color like black, but someone was. A young Japanese boy.

The boy could NOT be called attractive, in fact if his hair, that was currently combed back, had been in its usual form. Many people would have associated the boy to look like a monkey, his big ears being the main reason. The boy's name was Kenichi Saruyama, and he was on his way to visit his parents.

Kenichi wore a black suit, the only other color that was anywhere close to him was the bouquet of Bluebell flowers. The flowers as you may have guessed were blue in color with bits of beautiful yellow leaking onto its petals.

The train he was on slowed down, eventually stopping at the station closest to his destination, Sainin cemetery.

Kenichi sighed and walked off, he was coming later in the day than he would have liked but he had a reason for it. He really hoped he didn't run into the only other living family he had, his grandfather.

They were...let's just say different from each other.

Kenichi after walking for a few minutes came to an uphill stone covered path. He smiled weakly, his smile a confusing look of happiness and sadness. Walking up the path he noticed a crowd of locals gathered around something, but he paid it no mind. He had more important things to do.

The contents of what was hidden by the curious onlookers was a long, well made, black limousine. It had been here for several hours now. People had tried to look in buth e dark tinted windows left the insides a mystery to them.

But not to you.

"Sir." From inside a woman's tight and strict voice came from the drivers seat, her golden gaze swept up to the rearview mirror where she saw an old mans reflection. He leaned back, his Japanese style clothing spread across the black leather seat as he rested comfortably there. "He's here." The man smiled, his pure white teeth shone in the darkness as the man placed down his glass with auburn colored contents.

"Perfect, shall we head out then." He laughed to himself as he pulled out from a bag a mask made to pity.

The bright and warm sun shone down on the graves, most of them littered with either debris picked up by the wind or gifts left by family members. Some recent, others not. Kenichi walked over to one of the stones, small and insignificant compared to some of the bigger ones, but to him it was the most important one there, however sad it was to see his parents' grave.

The grave was marked with the characters that made up the word, Saruyama. His parents had been here for 9 years now, but it felt more like 90. Growing up without his parents was hard. It was even harder when you have Isshin Arima as your grandfather.

Isshin Arima was a name that you would be dumb not to know, he was Japan's richest man, maybe even the richest man in the entire world. There wasn't anything he didn't get his money hungry hands into. He was basically a one man monopoly over everything. He dabbled in everything, everything except parenting.

"Hello Mother and Father." Kenichi sat in the Seiza position. As he did his black pants got painted in the color of the gravel and dirt. But Kenichi didn't care, seeing his parents was the most important thing to him, he would be here even if it was raining, though it didn't seem to ever rain on this day, not anymore.

"It's me." He stopped, he didn't really know what else to say. What else could he say, he knew that the way he lived wasn't what they wanted, he knew that. But that didn't stop him because living this way was easy. It wasn't hard, it was easy, extremely easy.

"I…I'm in high school." He blurted out before realizing that, "Oh wait I told you that last year. I'm in my second year of high school. Yeah, I know I didn't think I'd make it either." He laughed, his grades bubbled up into his mind, he was just barely passing his high school career. He wasn't guaranteed to make it to his third year. "I have a friend, a real stupid guy, but he's nice. Real nice. Though sometimes I feel like that's all he is."

He thought of his friend, his only friend he had managed to make in his high school career, Rito Yuuki. He was someone that seemed to find himself in the weirdest situations with the opposite sex. He can't talk to girls for shit, but he certainly has gotten himself familiar with their bodies. Even if it is an accident. at least that's what he says.

"Mom-er sorry, Mother, do you remember how you always told me that as long as you are true to yourself people will naturally find themselves around you…well you were right." He stopped, he didn't wanna continue. He didn't wanna tell them that he was just a cog in a machine in someone else's life and he was okay with that. He was the funny friend, he wasn't true to himself, but he was true to his character description that told him to be a joke, told him to be a funny character, comedic relief. Because it was easy.

"Hoh? So you actually decided to show up!" An old man's voice cut Kenichi's thoughts off, he knew that voice, the voice that still to this day haunts his nightmares.

"Hello, Grandfather." Kenichi said with a sigh as he turned to look at the man that had raised him since his parents' passing. He wasn't very tall, his age had caused him to shrink as he got older. He even walked with a cane now, though he didn't even have a limp or any sort of bad leg. He probably used it to just invite sympathy. The only thing peaceful about his wrinkle covered face was his balding white hair, it looked like fresh fallen snow.

"Hello…boy" He spoke with a venom to his words =, but he still smiled, his missing teeth showing through his chapped lips. "I didn't think you'd come." He handed his cane to his guard, a teenage aged girl wearing a maid uniform. She accepted the cane without moving her head. Truly a professional.

Kenichi's I looked at the girl next to Isshin, she didn't look at him, barely even acknowledged him. Her golden eyes seemed unfazed and uncaring, she just stared right past him.

Isshin sat next to Kenichi in the Seiza pose, clapped his hands twice and prayed to whatever god he believed in. Though Kenichi was pretty sure the only God Isshin Arima believed in was himself.

Kenichi sat there staring at him, his ocean eyes attempting to get a look into what he was planning.

"Were you watching?" His question sparked a crooked smile to form on Ishhin's lips.

"So you are smart." Ishin's smile spread, you could see his gums and the gaps where teeth should have been. "Your grades were making me think you got dumber. I guess they were wrong. You only got uglier after leaving my nest." Isshin laughed for a few seconds before he began a coughing fit.

Kenichi took this as his chance and got up to leave, but not before he left Isshin with a few more words to mull over.

"I hate you, Grandfather."

"And I you, boy. You murdered my daughter." His words sent a shiver down Kenichi's spine, he knew he was right. He was a murderer.

Isshin watched as Kenichi walked away in defeat, this pleased him, he didn't like his grandson he never did. He was a constant reminder of his greatest failure, his daughter. His sweet amazing daughter, good golly she was perfect. There wasn't a person alive who didn't like her; she was just that amazing.

She was Isshin Arima but better, she was someone who could sell you a rock you found. There was nothing this girl couldn't do. That was until her final year of high school. She began a relationship, something that he had strictly prohibited. He had already picked her future husband and she knew that yet she still went to that boy. That piece of trash, ugly, money grubby, son of a whore. His name infuriated him so much that he refused to even acknowledge him; he had tried to get his daughter to agree to marry the man he chose. But she didn't, she had been ruined by that boy and worse she spawned a child with him. A child that killed her. The only remaining thing left of his daughter was the very thing that killed her.

"Fujikura, we are leaving." He stood up as he did, his feet brushed against the bouquet of flowers that rested on the ground, they were the Bluebells that Kenichi had brought. "What a stupid child, the dead can't tell the difference between bringing flowers and not bringing flowers. Why waste the money?" He asked to no one it was a rhetorical question, but an answer came from his maid,

"Because he loves them, he spent the money because he loves them." She gave a small smile while staring at the bluebells on the ground. They represented a lot of things in the language of flowers, though most commonly associated with long lasting love and memories.

"You don't get rich with love," Isshin grumbled, placing his hand behind his back as he walked down the hill toward his limousine. He had forgotten to ask for his cane back, he didn't actually need it.

Isshin closed the door to the limousine. The crowd that the limousine had gathered earlier dispersed when he exited the limo and began his ascent to torment Kenichi but they had regathered around after he had left. Though they scattered when they saw him returning.

"Fujikura take me home." He demanded as he looked at the reflection in the one way window, he didn't like the appearance he had, he looked old, like a brisk breeze could topple him.

It was a good thing that that wasn't what he really looked like. He reached up to his forehead and began to peel off the wrinkly skin that covered his face. Beneath was a face that didn't resemble an old man. Instead it was someone who looked to be in his early fifties. He pulled off more and more parts of his old man disguise, the crooked and fake teeth, the bald cap that hid his barely gray hair and his posture that returned to that of a proper businessman.

"Oh how I love being me." He whispered to himself as he poured a cocktail mix of Bourbon and Rum. as the glass clinked in the glass the limousine drove off toward the Arima mansion.
