"Th-this isn't fair!"
"That's right! It's only the first day! And even if it isn't…just expelling us like that after all the hard work we did to get here … That's wrong!"
"Unfair? Wrong? What do you think you signed up for?"
Ochaco and Mina, the two most vocal among the group, flinched at Aizawa's words.
"Natural disasters, rampaging villains, manmade incidents- life is full of unfair tragedies. And a hero's responsibility is to correct all that unfairness."
"If you came to UA expecting to hang out at the mall after class, I have bad news for you. For the next three years, we'll run you through the wringer. Only those who survive are the ones qualified to be called a hero."
The field once again descended into silence. Only this time, it wasn't out of fear. Aizawa's words lit a fire in them.
Survival of the fittest. For these teenagers whose hearts were full of passion, such a thing only encouraged them to try harder.
In this atmosphere, the Quirk Apprehension test finally began.
First event: 50-meter dash.
For this event, Aizawa chose two students to take the test at the same time. And as luck would have it, Iida Tenya was paired with Hiro.
"Ryugamine-kun, I must admit, I am no match for you in terms of power, however!"
Iida adjusted his glasses and stared at Hiro with a burning gaze.
"When it comes to speed, I won't accept being slower than anyone else!"
"Okay. Good luck to both of us, then."
Hiro smiled and nodded in affirmation at Iida, before taking a running stance. Iida, full of passion, did the same.
Seeing that they were ready, Aizawa started the timer at the same time as he gave the go signal.
Then, he didn't even have time to lower his raised hand. Hiro's figure had already flashed past the finish line.
Iida, who had just taken a single step, was stunned- so much so that he even forgot to continue running. It was only a couple seconds later, under everyone's shout, that he took off.
"Ryugamine: 0.21 seconds. Iida: 8.92 seconds."
Hiro's result once again caused everyone to gasp in awe. First an infinite score in the ball throw, and now a 50 meter run in under a second? Is that guy really someone of the same age as them?
However, while everyone was focused on Hiro's result, Iida had a devastated expression as he gazed at the 8.92 displayed on the timer.
"Aizawa-sensei, I…"
Iida clenched his fist. He wanted to ask for another chance. However, knowing it was his fault for being distracted in the first place, he was confused on how to proceed.
"Sensei, I think Iida should retake the test. After all, he was distracted because of me and wasn't able to show his full speed."
From the side, Hiro's voice suddenly sounded. He patted Iida on the shoulder in apology, and faced Aizawa's impassive face.
"When doing hero activities, a moment's hesitation can mean the difference between the life or death of a civilian. Tenya Iida's current results were entirely his own doing."
Aizawa said in a bland tone. He glanced at the unwilling Iida, then at Ryugamine, before continuing.
"However, this test is conducted to see your limits. Listing his current score when it's far from what he can do is irrational."
"Sensei, does that mean-!"
"Iida, go back to the starting line. There will be no third chances."
"Yes, Aizawa-sensei! I won't let you down!"
Iida bowed stiffly towards Aizawa, then turned to Hiro.
"Ryugamine-kun, thank you very much for standing up for me."
"Hey, it's fine, no need to bow. It was partly my fault in the first place. Just make sure to do your best this time."
"Yes!"
Without wasting any more time, Iida ran back to the starting line. Hiro smiled, then walked back to the rest of the class.
"Way to go, dude! Standing up to Aizawa-sensei like that, that was so manly!"
"Nah, Aizawa-sensei should have already decided to retest Iida. My intervention was unnecessary."
Hiro replied as he bumped Kirishima's outstretched fist.
"Unnecessary or not, you definitely looked very heroic, senpai~"
Mina joked, giving his chest a playful tap.
Time passed and everyone soon finished the 50-meter dash. After his retest, Iida secured second place with a time of 3.02 seconds.
Second event: Grip Strength
With a clench of his fist, the test machine which can withstand 10 tons of force was easily crushed. Hiro scratched his head, handing over the broken lump amidst Aizawa's unreadable gaze.
Third event: Standing Long Jump
Without even needing to use his full effort, Hiro easily leapt past the whole sandbox and obtained the maximum score.
Fourth event: Side-stepping
Hiro admits. If Mineta had been present, he might not have been able to easily place first in this test. But there was no if, and he once again scored the highest.
Fifth event: Ball Throw
Since he already did this earlier, Hiro became a pure spectator during this event. With her Quirk, Ochaco also achieved an infinite score. And he also noticed Bakugo, during his test, cast an unwilling glance at him after seeing his own throw reach only 712 meters.
Hiro just smiled back, not paying him any mind. And Bakugo's attention was also diverted soon to Midoriya, who was now standing in the circle.
Just like what happened in the anime, Midoriya destroyed his index finger and threw the ball at over 700 meters. Bakugo went catatonic with rage at thinking that Midoriya had been deceiving him all along.
Then, he was wrapped in bandages by Aizawa.
After some intense conversation, the farce soon ended and the rest of the test continued.
Sixth test: Sit-ups
With his strength and the help of his Quirk, Hiro once again got the highest score.
Seventh test: Seated Toe Touch
On the way to the event venue, Hiro felt several gazes honing in on him. He looked around, and noticed that most of them came from the girls.
"What's the matter? Ashido? Tsuyu?"
"Ryuga-chan, we just think this is the only event where your Quirk doesn't offer much advantage. Therefore, we want to get a higher score than you and prevent you from placing first in all the tests."
Tsuyu answered in a monotone voice. However, the way she stretched her lithe body suggests she was also very much looking forward to it.
The other girls nodded in agreement with her statement. Mina even gave a smug smirk, making Hiro chuckle in amusement.
"What's wrong? Why are you laughing?"
"I just find it ironic. Among all the events, this one is where my Quirk is the most suitable. And yet you're targeting me here."
"What?! Isn't your Quirk a physical enhancement type?"
One of the girls, with her long, black hair tied into a ponytail and a refined appearance, asked in surprise. Realizing how uncouth her actions were, a red blush tainted her cheeks and she awkwardly twiddled her thumbs.
"I'm sorry. Intruding into your conversation like that, please excuse my actions."
"It's fine. Yaoyorozu-san, no need to act so stiff. About your question, I can only say you're partially correct- my Quirk does strengthen my body, though that is only one aspect of its application."
"Don't keep us in suspense. What's your Quirk?"
Suddenly, the class became quiet after Mina's question. Everyone perked up their ears. Even Todoroki, who was doing his best to act nonchalant, had subtly moved closer.
"My Quirk is called Biokinesis. It allows me to control my body on a much deeper level, like this."
Hiro held out his right hand. With a thought, it expanded to become twice as big, then shrank to the size of a finger, before returning back to normal.
"Wait. Ryugamine-kun, if your Quirk only allows you to gain deeper control over your body, then how are you so…strong?"
Momo furrowed her brows in confusion. No matter how well one could control their body, surely they couldn't squeeze enough strength to throw a ball past the orbit.
"As I said, that was an application of my Quirk. I won't get into the nitty gritty details. In summary, by controlling the digestive process, I can more effectively train and increase my muscle density. And with my Quirk, that higher density muscle can exert even more power- achieving a positive feedback cycle."
Here, Hiro omitted something. Even if someone in this world really awakened a similar Quirk, they wouldn't be able to reach the same level of strength as his.
After all, another major reason for his strength is his body born in the world of One Punch Man.
The upper limit of a person's physique is determined by their genes. Just like how his body trained to its limit (without active enhancement from his Quirk) is still slightly weaker than his already old Bang-sensei, the upper limit of MHA human genes are generally lower than OPM humans.
Only by breaking through the genetic limiter like Saitama, or increasing the gene's limit, can one's physique continue to strengthen.
"So that's how it is. Ryugamine-kun, your Quirk is really powerful and versatile."
Momo said, her tone tinged with a hint of envy.
"I don't want to hear that from you, Miss-Create-Anything-I-Want. From my perspective, your Quirk is just as strong."
"C-create anything- well, that's a bit misleading. I can't create everything I want, just items I have a thorough understanding of."
"I stand by what I said."
Hiro shrugged. He was serious. Just like how Biokinesis is limited by the physique of humans in this world, Momo's Quirk shares the same fate.
If she is given access to Marvel world's Vibranium or Adamantium, even just data regarding their composition, her strength would instantly usher in a massive growth.
And if she can somehow create an armor like Iron Man using those materials, she'd instantly reach All Might's level of power. And not just herself, she can create as many of those armor as she wants- effectively being able to possess an army of All Might.
They soon arrived at the Gym. And just like what he said, Hiro easily got the highest score.
Eight Event: Distance Run
The last event, which had them run a distance of 5 kilometers, was cleared by Hiro in a few seconds, cementing his status as first place on all the eight tests.
