Nora's POV
"Should I bring you a chair and some water?"
I glance back, uncertain whether James is being sarcastic or genuinely thoughtful. The attic has become my lookout post tonight, and I've been staring into the dark woods for hours. It's the new moon, and the protection spell will be cast soon. My nerves are stretched thin, and I desperately wish I could be out there with my coven instead of being stuck on the sidelines.
"That would be wonderful," I reply. "And maybe a blanket too. It's freezing up here." The attic remains mostly bare except for the cleaning we've done, replacing rotted floorboards and patching holes in the drywall around the window.
At least we installed a bathroom up here, which my six-month-pregnant body definitely appreciates. I've been keeping vigil for two hours already, unable to shake the compulsion to watch for any sign of trouble.
