Nora's POV
Vivien's eyes go wide before she stumbles forward, struggling to breathe. Damn it! I drop my phone and rush to her side, my pulse hammering. Evangeline sniffs at the hex bag, analyzing the dark herbs and magic mixed inside.
Vivien claws at her throat as white foam appears at the corners of her mouth.
It's poison, Evangeline informs me, positioning herself over the bag to prevent anyone else from touching it.
"You're going to be fine," I say, gripping her shoulders firmly. I close my eyes and focus. This is a hex, not a full curse, which means it can kill just as easily but it's simpler to break.
"Converte hoc maledictio," I chant while Vivien chokes for air.
"Converte hoc maledictio."
I need salt immediately. Where is my bag? Oh right, it's still hanging from my shoulder. I yank it off and spill everything across the counter, snatching the small salt container I always carry. I twist off the cap, pour salt into my palm, then press it into Vivien's mouth.
