Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Crisis—The Claws Reaching for Camie

After Yunan left, the entire street erupted into chaos.

Pirates and civilians alike scattered in every direction, desperate to avoid the wrath of Charlos Saint if he regained consciousness.

Within just a few breaths, the once-bustling street was emptied of all human presence.

After all, to a Celestial Dragon, their lives were as insignificant as blades of grass—killable on a whim.

No one wanted to tempt fate. The farther they could run, the better.

...

Meanwhile, Yunan, completely unfazed, strolled through the shopping street of Island No. 30, picking out clothes for later.

"Hey, why are you still wandering around? The slave auction on Island No. 1 is about to start. Aren't you going to check it out?"

"Why bother? I've seen it all so many times. Only the giants are somewhat interesting. The rest isn't worth watching."

"Hmph! You have no idea. I heard there's a young mermaid at this auction! They say her looks are exquisite. Not every auction has one. If you don't go, I'm going!"

"What?! A young, beautiful mermaid? Why didn't anyone say so earlier?! Let's go, let's go!"

The two nearby civilians, after chatting excitedly, hurried toward Island No. 1.

"A young mermaid…"

Yunan frowned slightly as he picked through clothes, his mind immediately flashing to Camie's goofy little face.

"A young mermaid… she's probably the only one on the entire island," he murmured with a sigh.

Dropping the clothes, he sprinted toward the slave auction on Island No. 1.

...

Meanwhile, Charlos Saint, who had been knocked unconscious by Yunan, was waking up.

"Where did that damned human go?!"

The first thing he did upon regaining consciousness was to scowl and bark at his subordinates.

"My lord, he should still be within the Archipelago. He hasn't gone far," the black-clad bodyguard said respectfully.

"I've already dispatched men to search for and capture him."

"Bring him before me before nightfall. I want to carve that bastard to pieces! And if I haven't seen him by nightfall… then none of you have any reason to live!"

Charlos Saint snorted coldly, mounting a slave and heading straight for the auction.

...

Inside the auction hall on Island No. 1, seats were filled to capacity, almost entirely with nobles from the Holy Land of Mary Geoise.

For them, slave auctions were the most anticipated entertainment.

Here, they could acquire any slave they desired—young girls, strong men, pirate captains, giants, or even fish-men.

Looking up, besides the sea of world nobles, three Celestial Dragons sat prominently in the front row.

Aside from Charlos Saint, the other two were his father, Rosward Saint, and his sister, Rosward Shalria.

"Alright, everyone! Time's up. The auction officially begins!"

"The first item today: a human girl, Miru!"

Amid the announcer's cheers, a delicate-looking girl in a maid outfit, wearing an explosive collar, was pushed onto the stage.

"This young lady possesses top-tier beauty and physique, and is skilled in music, strategy, and the arts."

"Undoubtedly the perfect companion to relieve your leisure! Starting bid: 10,000 Berries!"

...

"20,000 Berries!"

"50,000 Berries!"

"100,000 Berries!"

...

As time passed, various slaves were auctioned off one by one, and the event gradually approached its climax.

"Now, for the final item of this auction."

"A truly rare young female mermaid!"

As Camie was pushed onto the stage, the crowd's excitement surged to its peak.

"A real mermaid? She's gorgeous!"

"I'll buy her! Even just to display at home, she's worth it!"

...

Everyone's bidding fervor was ignited.

"Exquisite mermaid, starting bid: 50 million Berries! Place your bids, ladies and gentlemen!"

"500 million Berries!"

At that instant, Charlos Saint raised his bid, shooting the price straight up to 500 million Berries.

The hall immediately fell silent.

Not only because of the exorbitant price, but also because of Charlos Saint's Celestial Dragon status.

Once he chose to compete, no one else dared to oppose him.

"Just a mermaid… worth spending so much?"

Rosward Saint glanced at his son, slightly displeased.

"Such a rare mermaid—how could you not buy her as a pet, Father?"

Charlos Saint leered obscenely at Camie, drool nearly forming at the corners of his mouth.
