Chapter 127 - A Ruthless Opponent

Lilith's body turned into dust and as he disappeared, there was a shrill scream like that of a banshee. I'd read about it. Souls that made deals with the underworld were eaten by Asmodeus and weren't given a chance at experiencing the afterlife. He was gone once and for all, but now there was a bigger battle to worry about. 

I took a slow step forward, keeping my hands where Syrus could see them. 

"Didn't think you'd end up playing for the other side," I said, trying to keep my voice light, like we were just two old friends bumping into each other at a market instead of standing on opposite sides of a battlefield.

Syrus didn't say anything. He just stared at me with that same cold, detached look. It was unnerving, like looking at a shell of a person I used to know inside out.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and forced a small, weak smile. "You don't look bad though. But you'd probably look better without the whole dark aura thing going on."
