Cherreads

Chapter 8 - 08 Reveal

"Thank you, Ray."

"Hmm."

He takes the plate of steak from Ray and puts it on top of the foldable table in front of him.

He then cuts the meat with a knife and stabs the smaller piece with a fork, putting it in his mouth.

The moment he does that, he can feel the meat melt in his mouth as he chews it, a burst of flavor hitting his tongue.

He lets out a moan of pleasure, tasting the deliciousness of the dish in his mouth.

As expected of Ray's, her cooking is always the best. He begins to wonder how it compares to Nazarick.

While enjoying his meal, he glances to the right, where Momon and Nabe sit silently beside the campfire, looking at the flickering flames in front of them.

After gulping the meat, he opens his mouth toward them.

"You all sure don't want to eat? Ray's cooking can temporarily boost your ability depending on what she cooks."

Momon turns his head toward him and then gently shakes his head.

"Like I said before, I can't eat after killing a creature on the same day."

He sighed hearing that; he knew the true reason why he couldn't eat, and it made him feel a bit of pity toward him.

Maybe he could make something for him so that he could eat again.

After that, he silently ate his dishes with Ray, savoring the delicious taste, before he raised himself and sat across from Momon with the campfire between them.

"So, Momon, I want to talk to you about your healing potion."

Momon looked straight at him and gestured with his chin to continue explaining.

He then stretched his hand to the front and took a blue healing potion from his inventory, showing it to him.

"This is the usual healing potion that alchemists make; it has a blue color, and the clearer the color, the longer it lasts before degrading."

He threw the potion toward Momon, who easily caught it as he observed it curiously.

"And the potion you gave to that woman is red; according to legend, the red potion is made from the blood of gods, and it can be stored forever without degradation."

Momon let out a long sigh as he flipped the potion in his hand, before he looked him in the eye and said.

"And what are you gonna do about that information?"

He felt the air suddenly change when Momon said that, as he felt pressure come out of him.

Ray, who had finished cleaning all the utensils, came closer and sat beside him, grasping his hand, making him feel a little relief as he could just teleport out of here if there was something wrong, although he doubted he could run away from him.

"There are only two ways you can obtain that potion: one, you found it in some sort of ruin."

"And the two?"

He gulped his saliva as he felt his throat dry out. He was going to make a gamble here; he couldn't be sure what was going to happen and hoped his plan would be successful.

"The two is... Momon, are you a Player?"

The atmosphere instantly froze as the only sound that played was the crackling of wood slowly being burned by fire.

"Narberal, prepare yourself!"

"Ha!"

The pressure suddenly increased tenfold at the same time as Momon, no, Ainz's voice got deeper, while Narberal looked at him warily with killing intent.

"Who are you?"

On the outside, Ainz looked like the epitome of calmness, but the shining red light between his helmet gave him a chill that made him want to run away.

He glanced to the right, where he could see Ray turning pale as she grasped his hand tightly, that his hand starting to make cracking sounds.

The sharp pain brought him back to reality as he silently cast [Lion Heart] on both of us.

He let out a breath as he felt courage coursing through his body. Meanwhile, Ray, who realized that she was holding his hand too tightly, softly whispered, "I am sorry, master," and slowly relaxed her hand while blushing embarrassedly.

He just nodded his head in acceptance, as that couldn't be helped considering the overwhelming aura Ainz let out.

"Oh? Did I intimidate you two? My apologies."

He then felt the aura surrounding Ainz slowly recede; it seemed he unconsciously let out his aura after hearing the word "Player" come out of his mouth. He must be pretty shocked if he did that.

"Anyway, you have not yet answered my question: who are you?"

He took a deep breath for a moment before he slowly opened his mouth and said,

"I am a former Player."

"Former? What do you mean?"

Ainz tilted his head in confusion; meanwhile, he glanced toward his left and right, then he looked Ainz in the eyes.

"Can we not discuss it here?"

Ainz paused before he said, "[Life Essence], [Mana Essence]."

The red flame in Ainz's eyes changed to green and then turned into blue; it seemed he wanted to check how strong we are.

"Don't worry about us; you and Nabe probably can squish us like a bug if you want to."

He wryly said as Ainz let out a sigh before putting two of his fingers into his temple, likely calling on his subordinate.

After several moments, he put his finger down and stood himself up while [Gate] spell formed behind him.

"Follow me and explain yourself on the other side."

"My lord, is this alright?"

Narberal, who had already changed into her maid uniform, stood in front of Ainz while still staring daggers at him.

"It's fine; he doesn't seem to be a threat."

"If that's what you decided, my lord."

Narberal relaxed her posture, although she was still looking at him warily.

"Alright, let's go."

Ainz and Narberal entered first as he and Ray followed from behind, slowly approaching the swirling black portal.

"Master, are you sure we're gonna be alright?"

Ray looked at him worriedly while he calmly turned toward her.

"Don't worry; it went according to my plan."

"I'd prefer we just run away and not deal with this kind of being... but I trust your judgment, master."

Ray looked at him with determination as the corner of his mouth raised in a smile, seeing her trust in him.

"Left it to me! I'll make sure we don't turn into undead or something worse, hahahaha."

"That's not funny, master."

He laughed heartily to get rid of some of his apprehension while Ray pouted at him displeasedly for making a bad joke.

We then took a step and entered into the portal, as the portal slowly closed up, leaving behind an empty campfire with no one around it.

"◇"

Swoosh!

The surrounding scenery flew out of the corner of her vision as she skillfully jumped from tree to tree, ignoring a group of magical beasts on her way, which had not noticed her existence as she casually jumped over their heads.

She continued to keep up her pace while occasionally looking at the radar in her hand, checking if there was a big signal caught in it.

Looking at the radar in her hand, she couldn't help but sigh in amazement at her master, who could make advanced tools like this.

She heard that this is a combination of science and magic.

The thing in her hand is called Ranger Radar; it is a silver metallic circle the size of her palm that has a black screen on the surface that can detect life within a one-kilometer radius in the form of a green dot.

The bigger the size of the dot, the stronger the creature.

With this item in her hand, she can easily comb the forest to search for her target.

After all, she has already been given the general direction where she can find them by her master; she just needs to follow his orders.

Thinking about her master, she can't help but feel worried.

Even though he is a former Player, he hasn't yet reached his full potential, and to meet one with full power with undead as their race, she feels she is going to have a headache from worry.

Based on the story she heard from her master, a Player is a higher life form that has the potential to become a god-like being, with the Six Great Gods and Eight Greed Kings as examples.

With power like that, it would be as easy as breathing to kill someone like her master.

As a feeling of worry slowly wrecked her, she forcefully shook her head and sharply looked ahead. She was currently on a mission, and she couldn't afford to be distracted.

Besides, her master had already prepared countermeasures in case he was killed; she just needed to focus on what she was currently doing.

When she jumped to one of the branches of the big tree in front of her to rest for a moment, she suddenly saw a glitch on the right screen of the radar.

She widened her eyes and immediately turned off the device.

Ranger Radar works like echolocation, which can let out signals to the surrounding area and then bounce them back to the device in the form of data.

When there is a glitch on the screen, it means something must have blocked the signal.

That's why she hurriedly turned it off, so whoever was blocking the signal wouldn't notice it.

She then stored the Ranger Radar in her pouch as she stared in the direction of the glitch.

She took a deep breath for a moment before she activated all her equipment abilities, martial arts, and skills that had anything to do with concealing her presence.

She then entered into shadow with her skill, rushing off into the distance.

After several moments, not up to one minute, she entered the shadow of a tree and took a peek from three hundred meters at the group of people sitting around a campfire in the forest clearing.

They all wore impressive gear that each one could probably be made into national treasures, and every single person there emitted strong pressure, with some of them feeling stronger than her.

There is no doubt that they are the ones she seeks, the Black Scripture.

The moment she confirmed that they were actually the Black Scripture, she immediately got out of there; she didn't feel safe even though she was hidden in the shadows and just peeking at them from a distance for three seconds.

After all, they were all elite among the elite from Theocracy, who knew what kind of strange abilities they had.

Even though Clementine had already given them all the information she had, it didn't mean she knew everything about them.

She better meet up with Clementine and stalk them from a distance.

With that in mind, she increased her speed, ignoring all obstacles and rushing from shadow to shadow.
