They did not chain Aren this time.

That frightened him more than the cuffs ever had.

He was escorted through corridors he had never seen—clean stone, guarded doors, silence thick with control. Kars Vell waited at the end, expression carefully neutral.

"The cleanser survived," Kars said. "Barely."

Aren met his gaze. "You sent him to erase me."

"I sent him to confirm something," Kars replied. "And now I have."

He turned away. "You are no longer a pit fighter. You are a liability."

The words settled heavily.

Liabilities weren't kept.

They were studied.

Or removed.

That night, alone in a reinforced chamber, the pressure returned.

Stronger.

Colder.

Major Achievement Recorded.

Condition: Survival Against Correction.

January Record: Structural Evolution – Confirmed.

Aren collapsed to his knees as the change burned through him—bone, nerve, breath aligning into something denser, quieter, terrifyingly stable.

He understood then.

The pit was no longer his cage.

It was his proof.

Elsewhere in the city, alarms were quietly rung. Messages sent upward. Eyes opened where none had looked in centuries.

Aren lay back against the stone, chest rising steadily despite the pain.

"They're watching now," he murmured.

Above him, false gods stirred.

Beyond them, something ancient turned its attention fully toward the anomaly that had refused to be erased.

And January recorded everything.
