Goku nodded firmly.
"You're right. Let's go, Chi-Chi!"
They hopped onto the Flying Nimbus, creating a golden streak that cut through the sky toward the Red Ribbon Army Headquarters.
What followed was less of a battle and more of a systematic dismantling of the world's most feared military force.
As Goku and Chi-Chi descended upon the massive fortress, the Red Ribbon Army threw everything they had at them.
Anti-aircraft missiles were caught and thrown back.
Tanks were flipped over with single kicks.
Platoons of elite soldiers fired thousands of rounds, only to find their targets vanishing and reappearing behind them.
Deep within the command tower, the panic was absolute.
Commander Red, furious and desperate, revealed his petty wish to become taller, prompting his second-in-command, Staff Officer Black, to snap.
In a fit of betrayed rage, Black shot Commander Red, taking control of the army for himself.
Desperate to turn the tide, Commander Black jumped into the army's ultimate weapon: the Battle Jacket, a massive, high-powered combat mech suit.
He burst through the walls, confident that his robotic might would crush the intruders.
It lasted less than a minute.
Goku shattered the robot's armor with a single Janken fist, and Chi-Chi severed its hydraulic lines with a Kiai slash.
As the mech crumbled around him, Commander Black made a desperate attempt to escape, only to be stopped by Goku.
An hour later, a heavy transport plane buzzed over the smoking remains of the headquarters.
Inside, Yamcha, Bulma, Roshi, Krillin, and the others were geared up for war.
They had tracked Goku, terrified that he and Chi-Chi were walking into a suicide mission.
"Hold on, guys!" Yamcha shouted from the cockpit.
"We're almost there! We have to save them before the Red Ribbon Army overwhelms them!"
"I just hope we're not too late." Bulma cried, clutching a capsule gun.
But as the smoke cleared below, the group fell silent.
There was no army.
There were no tanks firing.
The formidable Red Ribbon Headquarters was reduced to a smoking crater of twisted metal and rubble.
Yamcha landed the plane on a flat patch of concrete.
As the dust settled, they saw two small figures sitting on a piece of debris.
"Hey, guys! You're late!"
Bulma dropped her gun.
Master Roshi's sunglasses slid down his nose.
Yamcha just stared, his jaw practically hitting the floor.
"They... they destroyed the entire army?" Krillin squeaked.
"Just the two of them?"
Chi-Chi hopped down, dusting off her hands.
"We tried to leave some for you, but they were softer than we thought."
Master Roshi stepped forward, stepping over a piece of twisted metal.
He lowered his sunglasses, his eyes narrowing not in perversion for once, but in sharp, martial assessment. He could feel it, the air around Goku and Chi-Chi was different. They weren't just strong; they were refined.
"Incredible, to take down an entire army without barely breaking a sweat... You two have ascended to a level that goes far beyond what I taught you."
Chi-Chi walked up to the old master, bowing respectfully.
"We didn't do it alone. We climbed Korin Tower. We trained with the Great Hermit."
Roshi's eyebrows shot up, hidden behind his shades.
"Korin Tower? You actually climbed it? And you managed to snatch the water from that old cat?"
"We did, but Master... I wanted to thank you."
Roshi blinked, surprised.
"Thank me? For what? I didn't send you up there."
"For inviting me to the tournament all those months ago, If you hadn't brought me there, I would have stayed on my mountain, arrogant and blind to the real world. I would have thought I was strong enough. Fighting in your tournament showed me how big the world really is, and that my journey as a martial artist was only just beginning."
Master Roshi smiled, a proud expression softening his wrinkled face.
He saw the fire in her eyes, it wasn't the bratty entitlement she had when they first met, but the burning resolve of a true warrior.
"I see. I am glad to see you walking the true path of the martial artist, Chi-Chi. You have grown into a fine warrior."
He glanced over at Goku, who was busy laughing with Krillin and Yamcha. Roshi's grin widened.
"And it looks like Goku finally has something he's never really had before." Roshi added, looking back at Chi-Chi.
"A rival who can truly stand on equal ground with him. The next World Martial Arts Tournament is going to be something special."
The celebration was short-lived.
As the dust settled over the ruined Red Ribbon base, Goku pulled out the Dragon Radar to pinpoint the final Dragon Ball, the one they needed to revive Upa's father.
He tapped the screen, shook it, and smacked it against his palm.
"It's... it's not showing up, the radar isn't picking up the last signal. It's not broken, but the signal is being blocked by something."
Master Roshi stroked his beard thoughtfully.
"If science fails, perhaps we need to look to the supernatural. I have an older sister... a fortune teller named Uranai Baba. She can find anything lost, for a price."
/////////////////////////////////
The group traveled to Baba's eerie palace floating over a dark lake. The price for a fortune, however, was steep: ten million Zeni, which none of them had.
The alternative? Defeat her five supernatural champions.
"Fine by us. We didn't train this hard to back down from a few ghosts." Chi-Chi said, cracking her knuckles.
The battles began on the precarious stone arena.
The Vampire Fangs, Puar and Upa managed to outsmart the vampire using garlic and a crucifix pose, securing the first win.
The Invisible Man, Yamcha struggled to fight what he couldn't see, but thanks to a nosebleed caused by Master Roshi (involving Bulma), the Invisible Man was covered in blood, becoming visible. Yamcha finished him off with a Wolf Fang Fist.
The Mummy Bandages, this was where the difficulty spiked. Yamcha was quickly overwhelmed by the Mummy's brute strength and speed.
"My turn." Chi-Chi said, stepping in.
The Mummy laughed at the little girl, but his laughter died instantly. Chi-Chi didn't just dodge his bandages, she tore through them. Using the raw power she gained from Korin, she engaged the undead warrior in a high-speed melee. When the Mummy tried to trap her, she used a Kiai shout to blast him out of the ring, proving that her training was absolute.
Devilman Spike, The champion of Hell. He attempted to use the Devilmite Beam on Goku, a move that turns a person's negative thoughts into destructive energy. But Goku, pure of heart, felt nothing. Confused and panicked, Devilman was swiftly knocked out by a single kick from Goku.
The Final Battle: Goku vs. The Masked Man
Only one fighter remained. A mysterious old man wearing a cat mask and a halo hovering over his head walked into the ring.
"This one feels different." Goku whispered, shifting into his stance.
"He doesn't have any killing intent... but he feels really strong."
The fight that followed was a masterclass in martial arts. The Masked Man knew the Turtle School style perfectly. He countered Goku's Kamehameha with one of his own. He anticipated Goku's movements, using throws and grappling techniques that Goku hadn't seen in years, but that his body remembered instinctively.
They moved back and forth, the stone arena cracking under their impacts. But just as Goku prepared a final strike, the Masked Man moved with uncanny knowledge.
He stepped on Goku's tail.
"Gah!"
Goku's strength vanished instantly, and he collapsed to the floor.
The Masked Man chuckled, grabbing Goku by the tail and slamming him around until the tail ripped off entirely.
The man eventually declared surrender, admitting he had no more tricks to teach the boy.
"You've grown strong, Goku," the Masked Man said gently.
"And you've made good friends."
He reached up and untied the mask.
Goku's eyes widened. Tears instantly welled up, spilling over his cheeks.
"Grandpa...?"
It was Grandpa Gohan. Baba had brought him back from the Other World for one day just to see his grandson.
"Grandpa!" Goku screamed, launching himself into the old man's arms, crying uncontrollably.
For the first time in a long time, the world's strongest boy was just a child again. Chi-Chi watched from the sidelines, her eyes softening. She saw the pure love between them and realized that this heart was the source of Goku's true strength.
Grandpa Gohan patted Goku's back, then looked over at Chi-Chi and Master Roshi.
"You're in good hands. And that girl... she's got a fire in her, Goku. Keep training with her. You push each other to be better."
With the reunion over, Baba revealed the location of the final ball: it was in a metal box that blocked radar waves, currently in the hands of Emperor Pilaf.
/////////////////////////////////
Confronting Emperor Pilaf turned out to be the easiest part.
Pilaf, arrogant as ever, believed his new Pilaf Machine combined with Mai and Shu's mechs would be enough to crush the children and steal the rest of the Dragon Balls.
He didn't realize who he was dealing with.
Goku and Chi-Chi didn't even need to use their full speed.
With a synchronized double-kick that cracked the fused robot's armor like an eggshell, they dismantled Pilaf's ambitions in seconds.
Pilaf, terrified and realizing he was outclassed, surrendered the One-Star Ball without further argument.
With the final sphere in hand, the group returned to the Sacred Land of Korin.
The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, but as Goku placed the seven Dragon Balls on the grass near Bora's grave, the atmosphere changed.
A low hum vibrated through the earth. The sky suddenly turned pitch black, as if night had fallen in an instant.
"Come forth, Shenron! And grant my wish!"
Golden light erupted from the balls, shooting into the sky like a beacon. The light twisted and took form, transforming into a serpentine dragon of endless length.
Shenron loomed over them, his red eyes glowing in the darkness, his massive scales glistening.
"I AM THE ETERNAL DRAGON, SPEAK YOUR WISH. I SHALL GRANT ANY ONE WISH."
Upa stood frozen, trembling at the sheer size of the creature. Goku placed a reassuring hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Go on, Upa, he's listening."
Upa swallowed his fear. He looked at the fresh grave of his father, then up at the dragon. He clenched his small fists and shouted with all his heart.
"Please! Bring my father back to life! Bring Bora back!"
Shenron's eyes glowed red.
"YOUR WISH IS AN EASY ONE."
There was a moment of silence. Then, the earth covering Bora's grave began to shift. The lid of the coffin burst open.
A large, muscular hand reached out, gripping the edge of the earth.
Bora pulled himself up, gasping for air, looking confused but healthy.
The hole in his chest where Tao Pai Pai's spear had pierced him was gone without a trace.
"Father!" Upa screamed, tears streaming down his face as he sprinted into his father's arms.
Bora caught him, hugging his son tightly, lifting him into the air.
"Upa... I... I am alive?"
"IT IS DONE, FAREWELL."
The dragon turned into a brilliant flash of golden light.
The seven balls rose into the air, spun in a circle, and then scattered in seven different directions across the globe.
As they flew off, Goku leaped into the air with lightning reflexes, snatching the Four-Star Ball before it could vanish over the horizon. He landed softly, clutching his grandfather's memento, a satisfied grin on his face.
Chi-Chi watched Upa and Bora crying tears of joy, a soft warmth filling her chest.
She looked at Goku, who was putting the ball in his pouch.
"We did it."
"Yeah, we really did." Goku replied, looking at her with a thumbs up.
The Flying Nimbus banked sharply, cutting through the clouds to reveal a familiar silhouette—but one that had changed drastically.
What was once the terrifying, flame-wreathed Frypan Mountain was now lush, green, and serene. It truly lived up to its older name: Pleasant Mountain.
More surprisingly, the base of the mountain and the area surrounding the castle were no longer desolate.
Smoke rose from chimneys, and small houses were clustered together. It was the same group of people Chi-Chi had saved from the dinosaur earlier in her journey; after the soup party, they had apparently decided to stay under the Ox-King's protection.
"Whoa!"
Goku exclaimed, peering over the edge of the yellow cloud.
"It sure has changed a lot since the last time I was here! There are people everywhere!"
Chi-Chi crossed her arms, a small sigh escaping her lips, though she looked fond of the sight.
"Yeah, Papa got bored living alone. He decided to let the villagers settle here and renamed the place Ox Town. He says a King needs subjects, but I think he just likes having people around to brag to about me."
She tapped Goku's shoulder.
"Come on, let's go down to the balcony."
The Nimbus swooped down, depositing them gently onto the wide stone terrace of the renovated castle.
The Ox-King wasn't there at the moment, likely down in the village imposing his boisterous cheer on the locals.
Chi-Chi hopped off, her expression shifting from casual to serious.
She turned to face Goku, the wind catching her dark hair.
"Listen, Goku, we did some amazing things these past few days. But... I'm not satisfied."
Goku tilted his head.
"You aren't?"
"No," she said, clenching her fist.
"I saw how strong you are. If I stop now, I'll just fall behind. So, for the next three years, I'm going to train harder than I ever have."
She pointed a finger at him.
"So you better prepare yourself! Because at the next tournament, I'm not just going to be your friend. I'm going to be your opponent, and I plan on winning."
Goku's eyes lit up, his tail wagging involuntarily.
"Really? That sounds awesome. I'm gonna go train around the world and get way stronger too. I can't wait to fight you again, Chi-Chi!"
Chi-Chi felt her face heat up at his enthusiasm.
"G-good! That's how it should be!"
She suddenly looked away, fidgeting with her sash.
"Anyway... um... don't leave just yet. Wait right here. Don't move!"
"Huh? Why?"
"Just wait!" She barked, turning on her heel and sprinting inside the castle.
Goku blinked, confused, but did as he was told.
He leaned against the stone railing, watching the villagers below, kicking his legs back and forth.
Ten minutes passed.
Then twenty.
Then thirty.
"Man..." Goku groaned, his stomach giving a low rumble.
"She's taking forever. I wonder if the Ox-King has any food..."
Just as he was about to wander off, the heavy wooden doors creaked open.
Chi-Chi stepped out, hiding something behind her back. Her face was flushed a bright shade of pink, and she was refusing to make eye contact.
"Finally! What took you so long?"
"Shut up, I was busy!" She marched over to him and thrust a small cloth sack into his chest.
"Here. Take this."
Goku grabbed the sack, sniffing it immediately.
"Smells good. What is it?"
"Cookies." Chi-Chi mumbled, looking aggressively at a cloud in the distance.
"I made them. Just now."
"Whoa! You know how to cook?" Goku asked, genuinely amazed.
Chi-Chi bristled, her eyebrows furrowing.
"Of course I know how to cook! What do you think I am, helpless? I'm the Ox-King's daughter, I can do anything!"
"Awesome!" Goku opened the sack and popped a cookie into his mouth.
"Mmph! This is great! Thanks, Chi-Chi!"
Chi-Chi stiffened. She looked at him, watching him happily munch on the snack she had frantically baked in the castle kitchen.
She wanted to say something nice.
She wanted to tell him that she was grateful for him for training with her, and for treating her like an equal.
"I... I just... I made them because... you know... for... t-t-t..."
The word 'thank you' seemed to be stuck in her throat, blocked by a wall of embarrassment.
"For t-t-t..."
She struggled, her face turning redder by the second.
Finally, she gave up, stomping her foot.
"I made them because you eat too much and you'd probably starve on your way home! Just take the stupid cookies and go!"
Goku laughed, completely oblivious to her internal struggle.
"You're weird, Chi-Chi. But thanks! I'll see you in three years!"
He hopped onto the Nimbus, waving as he zipped away into the sky.
"See you!" He shouted back.
Chi-Chi stood on the balcony, watching the golden streak disappear. Slowly, the angry scowl faded from her face, replaced by a soft, private smile.
"Three years..." she whispered to herself.
You better be ready, Goku.
And so, the friends part ways, each embarking on their own journey of self-improvement.
