The elders did not bring a finished law to the next Forest Table meeting, which Mireva preferred. They brought a draft covered in corrections instead. Several sections had been crossed out so heavily that Martin could no longer read the original wording, while other pages carried notes squeezed into the margins in three different hands.
One page had been replaced entirely after the elderly Sairren observer apparently objected to the phrase protected communities strongly enough that an elder had written residents over it six times.
Rangar set a fresh copy in front of Mireva. "Nothing on that page is final."
Mireva opened it. "If you need to tell me that before I read it, I already dislike the page."
