Gwen wanted to ask more questions, but she realized that Peter had already left without a second thought.
"Damn it…"
She watched his retreating back, then glanced once more at that dazzling "star." In the end, she still didn't chase after him. Instead, she slipped behind the others and moved into a corner where no one could see her.

Chapter 41: You Are the True Heroes
(Please continue reading)
Times Square, New York.
At the same time, countless giant screens surrounding the square were broadcasting footage of Superman battling the Hulk.
Yet at the very center of the plaza, another equally thrilling battle was unfolding.
Captain America swung his circular vibranium shield, clashing head-on with a blond, muscular man clad in ornate armor and wielding a massive silver hammer.
Shield and hammer collided again and again, metal crashing against metal. Their free fists clenched tightly, striking without mercy—nearly every blow landing squarely on a vital spot.
Terrifying power surged continuously. Each impact between hammer and shield unleashed violent shockwaves, powerful enough to flip cars with ease.
Nearby S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had already retreated dozens of meters away.
A battle between beings of superhuman strength was something ordinary humans simply could not intervene in.
"Director… do you think the Captain can win?"Coulson stared intently at the fight, his eyes filled with concern for his idol.
"No matter how this ends, we must prepare in advance,"Nick Fury replied, his voice slow and heavy.
"Mobilize every available S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the area. And notify Rumlow—have him bring his entire special operations team."
As Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury had to consider the worst possible outcome.
After issuing the orders, he fell silent again, as if hesitating over something.
Boom!
Another car was destroyed by the aftermath of the battle, and Nick Fury finally made up his mind.
"Also, notify Barton. Have him bring the experimental results immediately."
"But sir, the test subjects haven't completed the trials yet. If they're exposed to the virus now, I'm afraid—"Coulson warned solemnly.
"We don't have time," Fury cut him off."No matter what, we must resolve this situation."
His gaze never left Captain America, who was clearly showing signs of exhaustion—yet his eyes still burned with unwavering determination.
…
As expected, Fury's concern was not unfounded.
Not long after he gave the order—
Boom!
Captain America was sent flying by Thor, hurled dozens of meters before slamming violently into a car.
The impact left a deep dent even in an armored vehicle, more than enough to demonstrate the sheer force behind the blow.
The recoil threw Steve to the ground hard.
Though he had managed to block Thor's hammer with his shield, exhaustion caught up with him. Before he could react, Thor's kick struck him squarely.
"Hahaha! The warriors of Asgard are the strongest!"
Even without invoking divine power, Thor had overwhelmed the man said to have reached the absolute peak of human strength.
Raising Mjolnir high, Thor laughed heartily.
"Captain!"
Several agents cried out in alarm.
"Captain, let's go take him down!"Some of them surged forward, furious and ready to fight Thor to the death.
"Enough."
Nick Fury stopped them.
"Hey… you haven't beaten me yet."
The next moment, Captain America slowly and painfully pushed himself back to his feet.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, tightened his grip on the shield, and walked toward Thor—slowly, but resolutely.
Standing before the God of Thunder, Steve raised his shield once more and declared:
"I can do this all day."
"Haha… I admire you more and more. You deserve to be remembered."
Thor's earlier contempt vanished entirely.
"My name is Steve Rogers. I'm from Brooklyn."
"I am Thor Odinson, son of Odin, All-Father of the gods, from Asgard."
Facing a worthy opponent, Thor introduced himself with solemn respect.
"In Asgard, giving your all is the highest form of respect."
"Therefore, I will now use my greatest power to defeat you!"
His expression turned grave. Out of respect, Thor decided to fight at full strength.
"Bring it on."
Captain America did not retreat. His calm eyes were filled with unshakable resolve.
An invisible pressure spread from both of them.
"Looks like the sky's getting dark."
Without anyone noticing, thick storm clouds had gathered overhead. Thunder rumbled, as if something unimaginably terrifying was brewing.
Thor's body slowly rose from the ground.
Crack!
Lightning tore through the sky. The storm finally unleashed its fury.
A silver bolt, like a roaring dragon, descended from the clouds and struck Thor's body.
Instantly, arcs of lightning spiraled around him.
Hammer raised high, Thor looked like a god destined to bring destruction upon the world.
"Believe me—humans are far stronger than you think."
Even now, Captain America didn't take a single step back.
Head held high, posture unyielding, his eyes burned with fearless determination.
Thor's aura peaked. His gaze locked onto Captain America like a sharpened arrow.
The next instant, his body exploded with terrifying power, and he hurled himself downward at unbelievable speed.
Lightning trailed behind him, forming a long silver streak across the sky.
But just as this devastating strike was about to descend—
Two crimson beams, blazing like fire, shot across the distant horizon.
They were so fast that even Thor had no time to react.
The beams struck him directly.
In the next moment, the overwhelming force blasted Thor away.
His body smashed through several buildings in succession.
Boom!
Still carrying momentum, he crashed into another structure, causing it to collapse entirely. Rubble buried him completely.
"That is… Superman!"
In that instant, no one—including Captain America—looked at the fallen Thor.
All eyes were fixed on the towering figure rapidly approaching from the horizon.
Boom!
In the blink of an eye, the figure landed before them, moving faster than their eyes could follow.
"Heh… no wonder everyone likes landing like this. It really does look cool."
Peter muttered with a grin."Knees hurting doesn't matter—looking cool is what counts."
"So this is the one who wanted to challenge me?"
He slowly straightened up, looking toward the collapsed ruins, his voice low.
"Director, your decision to evacuate everyone within several miles was absolutely correct. Otherwise…"Coulson said with genuine admiration, staring at the destroyed buildings.
"Though I'm starting to think the cleared area might still not be enough."
"You are… the human hero from the sky—Superman?"Captain America asked in disbelief, pointing at the images still playing on the giant screens.
Hearing the voice, Peter slowly turned around.
His gaze lingered on Steve for a moment, then shifted toward the crowd behind him.
"No."
"You are the true heroes."
