A gas station, late at night.
Vincent Hawthorne stood by the car, watching the girl hug a newly purchased bag of things as she trotted toward the restroom.
He was getting impatient and fumbled for a cigarette in his pocket.
Realizing it was a bad idea to light up at a gas station, he put it back.
He had never been with Vivian Windsor through a moment like this, and Faye Vaughn was just a substitute.
"Vincent, I'm ready."
After a few minutes, Faye Vaughn walked out of the restroom.
She had washed her hands, and droplets of water dripped from her fingertips onto the ground, seemingly oblivious to the cold.
"Aren't you girls supposed to avoid catching a chill at a time like this?"
Vincent Hawthorne asked with a frown.
"Oh? You know about this, Vincent?"
Faye Vaughn looked up at him. "Is it because you've been with Miss Windsor during times like this?"
A thought flashed through Vincent Hawthorne's mind, and he suddenly said, "Then let's just pretend I'm with her right now."
