'He couldn't have picked a worse time to show up...'
'Did he hear us talking about love?'
"Love… I love to eat spicy hot pot."
Faye Vaughn changed the subject with jarring abruptness. "I'm injured right now. Can I still have hot pot?"
Vincent Hawthorne pushed up his glasses, a faint, unreadable smile playing on his lips as he watched her.
'She's quick on her feet,' he thought.
'Too bad. My older brother must have heard everything.'
"Who do you love?"
Wyatt Hawthorne strode over, his face an emotionless mask as he looked down at the girl on the hospital bed.
Faye Vaughn lifted her gaze and said weakly, "You, of course…"
Wyatt Hawthorne's handsome face remained impassive, but a hint of anger simmered beneath the surface.
But he didn't lash out.
He turned to Vincent Hawthorne and said unhurriedly, "Is your law firm that idle? About to go out of business?"
