Faye Vaughn couldn't get into the waiting area outside the operating room, so she could only find a good vantage point to watch what was happening over there.
The surgery took a long time.
A few hours later, Faye Vaughn saw doctors and nurses emerge from the operating room, all looking rushed. She didn't know what they said to Vincent Hawthorne and Liam Linden.
She was a long way off, but she could faintly see Liam Linden jolt, then stagger back a few steps, catching himself on the wall to stay upright.
A little while later, Joanna Linden was moved to the ICU.
Faye Vaughn spotted a nurse and quietly stopped her, asking in a low voice, "How is Joanna Linden's condition?"
This nurse was a veteran at Hawthorne Hospital. She recognized Faye Vaughn and knew she had a close relationship with President Hawthorne.
