Chapter 34
Ema's
The dream started the same way it always did.
"Mia, run!"
The woman's voice was like a blade cutting through the cold night air. It was sharp and filled with a kind of panic that made my blood turn to ice. Her hand was small but strong, crushing mine as she dragged me forward through the dark woods. I felt so small in the dream. My legs were short and clumsy, tripping over every root and stone. Every breath I took burned in my chest, and the freezing air felt like needles in my lungs.
Branches whipped against my face, stinging my skin, but the woman didn't slow down. The forest was too dark to see where we were going, and it was too loud with the sounds of the night.
I looked back over my shoulder.
