My fist slammed down on the heavy wooden desk.
I felt the wood crack slightly beneath the force of my blow. The pen holder tipped over on its side, and pens rolled across the surface before falling off the edge. Papers scattered across the floor like leaves in a storm, but I didn't care about the mess. I didn't care about the office at all.
That name wouldn't leave my head. It stayed there, repeating over and over again until I felt like I was going to lose my mind.

The name echoed louder every time I tried to push it down or bury it under my work. It was a name from a life I thought was gone forever.
Marcus was standing across from me. He had his arms crossed over his chest and his posture was as steady as a rock, just like always. His eyes tracked every single move I made. He was watching me carefully, waiting for me to snap or explain what was wrong.
