The Lost Vampire System Chapter 28 - NYXIS News
Jareth opened his eyes and found himself back in the gaming boxes suspended in the air. The things holding him up were slowly lowering him onto the floor of the box.
"Do you think she saw me?" Jareth asked Apollo as he started to take off the jacket, gloves, footwear, and other Velcro cords that were around his body.
"It's hard to tell," Apollo began. "I don't think she saw your face, at least—"
"Agh!" Jareth yelled as he clenched his stomach.
"Your mind has taken a great toll while in the game," the system began. "Blood Energy: 8 of 35. Your hunger has reached its threshold. Your hunger has infiltrated your mind and your ability to reason on an instinctual level."
"What does that mean?" Jareth asked out loud.
"I don't know if you're at a similar place," Apollo started with his explanation. "In the world of the gods, the gods usually show traits of what they are. For example, the god of killing may have an urge to kill at every given moment. The god may not want to in the moment, but his instinct is telling him to. I believe that your vampire instinct to hunt and survive might be controlling you more than you think."
"It's not controlling me," Jareth argued as he finished taking off his gear. "I feel fine."
"Place yourself in front of a human and see if you can hold back against your instincts, and pray that your instincts just want some blood and not to kill for it."
"I forgot that my diet will most likely be blood," he said as his face went pale, "kill?"
He opened the door to the gaming box and found that Keira was standing in front of his box, holding onto a book.
"What do you know?" she spoke. "You were actually in this one. Madison said you'd be here."
"Keira?" Jareth questioned as he stepped out of the box and onto the cyberpunk-like floors.
"Yeah," she said as a hint of red went on her cheeks before completely vanishing. "I know that you refused an Evolved book from the military, but I was hoping that you'd consider asking the military for the wind evolved book so we could learn it together?" Her right foot twiddled slightly, and she looked down as it seemed like she was nervous in asking him.
He was about to answer when he could feel a hunger flow through his body. He tried to move, but his body only wanted to move toward Keira. She looked back at Jareth again, but it looked like something was wrong.
"Jareth?" she asked, but he didn't respond as he looked like he really needed to take a dump.
Jareth was now trying to keep his body from leaping at Keira, but he felt like he couldn't hold on anymore.
"You best cover this up," Apollo casually said.
You're acting like she isn't a person; he projected his thought to Apollo.
Before Apollo could answer, he felt his mind lose control of his body as he lunged at Keira. Her eyes widened in fear as her mouth started to open, but before she could scream, his hand covered her mouth, muffling the sound. Jareth collided into her, and they crashed onto the floor as Jareth's vampire-like mouth sank his fangs into her neck and began to drink. Keira tried to fight, but Jareth's Half-ling body overwhelmed her strength. Her eyes were in sheer terror, but all he could see was red vision, her red hair, and her neck.
No! Jareth screamed internally. I have to stop.
"You are consuming blood," the system came in. "Every 10 milliliters of blood you consume will restore 1 Blood Energy. You have consumed 1,067 milliliters of blood. Your Blood Energy is restored. Consuming more blood will only be for pleasure."
He could feel his senses come back, and he immediately stopped, taking his mouth out of her neck. He looked at her face, but it looked like she had passed out. He continued to stare at her as droplets of blood trickled down his chin. There was a bite mark on her neck, but no blood was coming out of it.
"What do I do?" he muttered as he quickly looked around.
"Just leave her," Apollo said casually.
"What?" Jareth growled in a low tone. "I can't leave her here."
"Sure, you can. Fights usually happen, and you are in a world where Becifers roam around. Someone will find her, and she'll probably go to the medical room. They'll just assume a fight happened and someone gets a kick out of biting into the people they bully. Heck, they might even think it's a Becifer. You have to make sure you are beside her as a friend before she wakes up."
Jareth pondered for a moment before he decided to go with Apollo's plan as he left to go and clean himself up.
Moments later, a group of people had entered the place and noticed Keira. Soon, military guards arrived and carefully moved her out of the building and into a small medical building in the middle of the base.
Jareth entered the bathroom and washed himself off as best as he could while panicking.
"Stop panicking," the god complained.
"Why would I not panic?" the Half-ling asked. "I just drank blood. That alone would cause me to panic. I also attacked a student. Maybe attacking is ok, but I bit her. What if she dies?"
"I doubt that," Apollo said. "1,000 is a lot, but she's in the safe bracket. You need to either feed before you get to the ten mark or figure out how to control the lust when you get there."
Jareth sighed as he looked in the mirror at his reflection. Besides looking like he had placed his head in the pool, he didn't look like he had blood on him. His pupils lit up red slightly before returning to their dark blue color.
"Scary," the god giggled.
Jareth ignored the comment as he left the bathroom and went down in the elevator to the ground floor. When the door opened, he came face to face with Madison.
"You're out?" she questioned as he stepped out of the elevator.
"I…got bored," he said while walking away.
"Bored?" she questioned, but Jareth was already walking toward the exit of the building to go to the medical building.
"Bored?" Apollo questioned while laughing like he had heard the best joke in the world. "You might as well have told her you fed on poor sweet Keira. Getting bored at a game like that at your age might be considered a faction crime in your generation."
"I panicked, ok," Jareth muttered.
"Well, you keep doing that," Apollo snickered while laughing. "I bet you forgot about the sun."
Jareth stopped just as he was about to enter the sun. The god just chuckled as he was right. Jareth just took a deep breath as he walked into the sun.
"You are in direct sunlight," the system said. "All stats reduced by 40%. Health Points: 12 of 20. Strength: 7 of 12. Stamina: 7 of 12. Agility: 7 of 11. Dexterity: 3 of 5."
Jareth slumped over as he slowly made his way toward the medical building in the distance.
Right behind Jareth, Madison had walked out of the building but stopped.
Bored? she thought again as she pulled a phone from her back pocket.
She scrolled through her apps as she opened one called NYXIS. She quickly checked her stats. Nothing had changed besides her play time, which was over 1,000 hours. She opened the social media feed in the app. It was the part where NYXIS's automated system shows news and events that are happening in NYXIS. There was also a separate app for NYXIS influencers, but she just wanted to see if anything had happened that would cause Jareth to quit right after she left. The first thing that popped up was a title of an article written by the admins of the game:
The game creator CyberGirl seen shouting Crimson Dawn while trying to kill his avatar. Who is this Crimson Dawn and why was she after him?
There was a picture below showing CyberGirl aiming at an orange-haired individual while people were fleeing and a smoking hole in the building.
"Oh, no," Madison said. "What have you done?"
