The North, the Wall
At the foot of the Wall, on that vast and frigid white ice plain, countless wights were slowly gathering.
Their bodies were stiff and their eyes hollow, making the place look like the hell of legends.
These creatures had been advancing aimlessly, but at that moment, they looked up toward the sky as if drawn by some mysterious power.
"Roar…"
With a deafening roar, three blasts of scorching dragonfire suddenly descended from the heavens. Like meteors streaking across the night sky, the three streams of dragonfire instantly illuminated the entire ice plain.
The descent of the dragonfire made the wights sense the threat of this powerful force. Under their master's command, the blue light in their eyes flickered even brighter.
Consequently, the wights that had been clustered together quickly scattered, seemingly attempting to evade the dragonfire falling from the sky.
Unfortunately, the speed at which the dragonfire descended was far faster than their decaying bodies could move. One could say the previous command was completely useless.
As the dragonfire fell, the wights in its path were quickly reduced to ashes. The temperature was so high that even the snow-drenched soil on the ground turned into a scorched black patch.
With the appearance of the dragonfire, a powerful shockwave instantly swept across the ice plain, and many wights were sent flying by the blast of hot air.
However, these mindless wights did not retreat because of this. Those knocked to the ground quickly climbed back up and continued their advance toward the Wall.
They had only one goal: to cross this final line of human defense, enter the world of men, and bring death and slaughter to all humans with warm blood flowing in their veins for their master.
In the sky, Drogon and the others, having finished breathing their dragonfire, quickly flapped their wings and soared upward.
Meanwhile, in a bedroom in Castle Black, Daenerys felt a gaze from the Far North. After giving orders to Drogon and the others, Daenerys woke up.
"That fellow must be the Night King Aegon spoke of. This guy is truly formidable; just that one moment made me feel afraid!"
After saying this, Daenerys walked out of the bedroom and headed toward the location of the maester of Castle Black who Jon had mentioned was his relative.
Daenerys had arranged everything. What happened next would depend on how her people handled things.
At this time, Drogon and the other two, having received Daenerys's orders, quickly left the perimeter of the Wall.
They came quickly and left just as fast. After breathing that burst of scorching dragonfire, they left without hesitation. This was something Jon had told Daenerys in advance; to verify this issue, Jon had specifically asked Daenerys to use the power of the dream world.
After personally encountering this eerie scene, Daenerys fully believed what Jon had said and began to wholeheartedly prepare to face the Night King coming from the north.
Although Drogon and the others had caused massive casualties among the wights outside the Wall, the enraged White Walkers did not retreat.
They quickly manipulated the remaining army of wights to charge toward the Wall. At this time, the entire land beyond the Wall had been conquered by the White Walkers, and almost every corner of the Haunted Forest was filled with wights controlled by their terrifying power.
Under the manipulation of these terrible monsters, these cold corpses surged toward the ice wall of the Wall like a tide.
The iron portcullis gates at the base of the Wall had long since been sealed with water by the Night's Watch soldiers. To break through now, they could only climb the Wall directly, just like the wildlings.
Meanwhile, atop the Wall, countless Night's Watch soldiers had been waiting for a long time.
They wore special dragonglass leather armor, making them look like little hedgehogs, and held specially made dragonglass spears and dragonglass battle-axes in their hands.
At their feet, logs made of ice, wood, and dragonglass lay quietly.
These logs were meticulously crafted, primarily from water, dragonglass, and wood. In such an environment, they could be produced quickly. The sharp dragonglass made these logs look like sea urchins.
They would become vital weapons for the Night's Watch soldiers to repel the wight army's invasion. This construction method allowed the logs to fall faster, and upon shattering, the force of their explosion would be like a miniature artillery shell.
"Release!"
At the officers' command, these dragonglass-infused logs fell like dumplings, dropping directly into the swarms of wights constantly climbing upward.
"Thud, thud, thud…"
"Boom…"
The logs made dull thuds as they struck the wights. The wights climbing up were like stains on a cutting board, being violently "scraped" off.
Although the dragonglass on the front of the logs would lose its effect after piercing a wight, the other pieces of dragonglass that didn't hit a wight would cause continuous damage during the fall.
Under the damage from these dragonglass logs, the wight army suffered heavy losses. Countless wights who had climbed halfway were smashed down, bringing the logs' subsequent damage to the wights below them.
A long-haired White Walker, looking like a skeleton, seemed to lower its head in thought after seeing this, but it didn't have time to react.
The Night's Watch warriors atop the Wall launched another attack at it. These were barrels of Fire Oil from the continent of Essos, brought directly from Myr.
Launched by special small catapults, these Fire Oil barrels made of oak were thrown directly below.
When the White Walkers saw these black barrels falling from the sky, they thought it was some special form of attack, so they all subconsciously took a few steps back.
But soon, these alien creatures without human thought simply ignored the falling barrels and dispatched even more wights to climb up.
If these White Walkers could understand human schemes and trickery, they might have stopped their actions. Unfortunately, these beings were merely half-man, half-monsters tainted by a mysterious power; they could accomplish nothing beyond simple thought.
Because of this, the White Walkers didn't notice that the logs had stopped falling, but soon, specially made glass oil lamps began dropping from the top of the Wall.
These glass oil lamps were a batch specially made in Myr so that the flame would continue to burn even while falling.
"Boom, boom, boom…"
"Crash…"
Accompanied by the sound of shattering glass, wisps of flame began to burn amidst the wight swarm. Upon touching the black Fire Oil on the ground, plumes of thick smoke and fire appeared almost simultaneously.
The fire grew stronger, and in a short while, walls of fire ignited within the wight swarm below. This sudden attack caused the wights to suffer heavy losses.
After encountering the fire attack, the fear etched deep within the power animating the wights was triggered. Ice and fire were two extremes, and in the collision of these two opposing forces…
The wights fell into complete chaos. They became like living torches, rampaging through the swarm. Whether they were fresh corpses that had only been dead a short while or those long since dried and rotted, they all burned in the fire.
This chaotic scene also affected the White Walkers' actions. Under the interference of the terrifying fire, the White Walkers lost control over a portion of the wights.
Just then, the passage through the Wall, which the White Walkers had been ignoring, underwent a change. Since the start of the battle, people had been clearing the ice inside the passage.
"Clang…"
"Rumble…"
As the iron portcullis was raised, the Unsullied, who had long been ready and waiting behind it, were prepared.
These Unsullied would fight as the vanguard. After establishing a defensive line, the long-range units behind them would attack the wights.
As the gate opened, several flaming wights rushed in, but they quickly slammed into the Unsullied's defensive line. A shield wall, arranged like roof tiles, quickly blocked them.
"Forward!"
At Grey Worm's command, the Unsullied began to push forward bit by bit. In a short time, they eliminated the wights near the passage.
At this moment, the Unsullied were like silkworms eating mulberry leaves, gradually encroaching upon the land outside, while the wights were like the leaves, being eliminated bit by bit.
"Prepare to attack!"
The Unsullied legion suddenly emerging from the passage quickly drew the White Walkers' attention. Consequently, the wights' assault began to intensify in this direction.
The Dothraki warriors acting as archers in the rear drew their bows to counterattack. Special dragonglass arrows quickly turned the charging wights into hedgehogs; even two White Walkers were shot dead because they couldn't dodge in time.
As the defensive line was established, more and more soldiers emerged from the passage. Especially when the repeating crossbows appeared, the wights suffered a devastating blow.
To deal with these wights and White Walkers outside the Wall, Jon had been working on developing weapons specifically for them ever since he conquered the Kingdom of the Three Daughters.
