Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Joey vs. Rex

"My turn—draw!" Yami Yugi's lips curled into a confident smile the moment he saw the card he'd pulled.

"Weevil… this duel is already over," he said coolly.

"Heh heh heh—if you think you can win, then try it," Weevil snickered.

The card I set is Parasite Paracide, Weevil gloated to himself. The moment he declares an attack, his whole field gets wiped out!

"Weevil—your face-down card is a Trap that automatically triggers when I attack, isn't it?" Yami Yugi said.

"W-what?! You saw through it?!" Weevil's grin twitched. "But even if you know it's a trap, you still can't attack!"

"Hmph. Tricks like that don't work on me." Yami Yugi placed a card down with absolute certainty.

"I activate the Spell Card Dark Magic Attack! As long as I control Dark Magician, I destroy all Spell and Trap cards on your field!"

"And there's one more thing," he added with a sharp, mocking smile. "As long as Magician of Dark Illusion is on the field, its name is treated as Dark Magician."

"What?!" Weevil's face drained.

Magician of Dark Illusion lifted its staff—an arc of dark power cracked down, blasting Weevil's set Trap into dust.

"And I'm not finished yet," Yami Yugi said. "I activate Magician of Dark Illusion's effect! Once per duel while it's face-up: when I activate a Spell/Trap effect, I can target a Dark Magician in my Graveyard and Special Summon it!"

"Rise, my faithful servant—Dark Magician!"

Dark Magician(ATK 2500 / DEF 2100)

"Dark Magician?! Why is that card in your Graveyard?!" Weevil screamed.

"Heh. It's been there from the start," Yami Yugi replied.

Weevil's mind flashed back to the opening—Graceful Charity.

"S-so that's when…?!" he choked.

"Weevil—your field is empty." Yami Yugi's voice turned final. "Battle! Dark Magician and Magician of Dark Illusion—direct attack!"

"Double Dark Magic!"

Both sorcerers raised their staves. Two black waves of energy tore across the arena and slammed into Weevil.

"S-stop! I don't want to be eliminated like this!" Weevil wailed.

"AAAGH!" His scream echoed as his Life Points crashed to zero.

Weevil: LP 4000 → 0

Yami Yugi wins! (Star Chips: 4)

"Yes! Yugi won!" Téa jumped up, beaming.

"That was it? A total instant kill," Tristan complained. "Weevil's way too weak."

Kisaragi leaned in close, tilting her head up at Kaiba with an almost teasingly sweet expression.

"Well, Kaiba—what do you think of Yugi's skill?"

"Hmph. Not bad," Kaiba admitted. "He's got real ability. If he joins the plan, I've got no objections."

Nearby, Weevil's body trembled as he stared into nothing.

"Again… I got wiped out in seconds…"

Yami Yugi looked down at him, thumb pointed downward in open contempt.

"Weevil… you're pathetic."

Then his gaze lifted—locking briefly with Kisaragi's, as if to say: I'll challenge you anytime.

Kisaragi understood perfectly. She answered with a small smile and a calm nod.

Kaiba caught that silent exchange—and a faint, unfamiliar hostility stirred in him toward Yami Yugi.

Three black-suited guards stepped in. Two of them hauled Weevil off the duel machine.

"You've lost all your Star Chips," the leader declared. "By the rules, you are to be forcibly removed from the island."

"N-no! Please—give me one more chance!" Weevil begged.

They didn't even pause. Dragging him toward the shore, they ignored every shout.

"By the way," Yami Yugi asked, turning back to the group, "how's Joey's duel going?"

"It only just started," Tristan said.

"Then let's go watch," Yami Yugi said—and headed out toward Joey's location.

At Joey's Duel Site

When they arrived, it looked like the argument had just ended. The two duelists squared up, ready to begin.

"Rex," Joey said, voice hard, "like we agreed—whoever wins takes all the Star Chips. And on top of that, the loser has to hand over one rare card."

"Fine by me," Weevil cackled from the side. "Not like your deck has anything worth taking!"

Joey's temple twitched. Veins bulged as he yanked a card from his deck and held it up.

"Then I'll put Time Wizard on the line!"

"Heh heh heh. Then I'll wager Red-Eyes Black Dragon," Rex said.

"Red-Eyes? That's what you're so proud of?" Joey scoffed. "I already have one. But hey—two is even better. I won't say no!"

"What?! You have Red-Eyes Black Dragon too?!" Rex's eyes widened.

"That's right. Someone gave it to me not long ago." Joey slammed his deck down. "Enough talk—let's duel!"

"Hmph. Then I'll crush you under my dinosaurs!" Rex growled.

"DUEL!"

"DUEL!"

Rex: LP 4000

Joey: LP 4000

"Joey—first turn is mine!" Rex declared.

"My turn—draw!"

"I Normal Summon Souleating Oviraptor in Attack Position!"

A dinosaur covered in blue markings burst onto the field, blue flames licking from its back—clutching a dinosaur egg that also burned with eerie blue fire.

Souleating Oviraptor(ATK 1800 / DEF 500)

"When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, I can choose one Dinosaur monster from my deck—either add it to my hand, or send it to the Graveyard."

"I send Giant King Thorn Dragon from my deck to the Graveyard!"

"Then I set two cards. Turn end!" (Cards in hand: 3)

"My turn—draw!" Joey said.

"I Normal Summon The Black Stone of Legend in Attack Position!"

A chunk of black stone appeared on Joey's field. At its center, a deep crimson light pulsed like a heartbeat.

The Black Stone of Legend(ATK 0 / DEF 0)

"An Attack Position monster with zero ATK?" Rex laughed. "Joey, do you even know how to duel? Was your Nationals semifinal run just pure luck?"

Kisaragi watched Rex with cold amusement.

What an idiot. Doesn't he know the rule of Duel Monsters? The truly terrifying monsters are often the ones with zero attack…

Kaiba glanced at the card, frowning slightly.

"Kisaragi… is that one of the cards you gave Joey? It looks a lot like the one you gave me—The White Stone of Legend."

"Yep," Kisaragi said. "I handed him those cards last night. Didn't think he'd actually put them to use this fast."

Joey raised his hand.

"I activate The Black Stone of Legend's effect! I Tribute this card to Special Summon one Level 7 or lower Red-Eyes monster from my deck!"

Rex's stomach dropped.

"N-no way…"

"Exactly what you're thinking," Joey said, eyes blazing. "I Tribute The Black Stone of Legend—and Special Summon… Red-Eyes Black Dragon!"
