Tim glanced indifferently at the astonished and angry Dr. Connors, his own expression unchanged.
Suddenly, an assistant ran in from outside the door and whispered something to Tim. His face shifted immediately, and he stood up.
"Dr. Connors, I hope you rest more during this time. Whenever you figure things out, you can resume your position," Tim said indifferently before hurrying out.
Tim's heart raced. He had just heard that Captain America Steve Rogers, who had been frozen in the Arctic for over seventy years, had been recovered along with a blood sample.
He needed to deliver this good news to Norman Osborn right away.
Norman Osborn was currently tormented by a family genetic disease, yet he continued diligently researching the Super Soldier Serum formula obtained from the military.
With Captain America's blood sample, Tim believed Norman would finally be able to perfect the serum before the disease completely defeated him.
The other serum could proceed at the same time. After all, having two breakthroughs that could change humanity was a good thing.
"Take this serum to the disabled veterans' hospital. No matter what method you use, you must find volunteers," Tim instructed his assistant.
He had to see Norman Osborn immediately and did not have time to handle this matter himself.
On the other side, Dr. Connors sat dejectedly in his office. He did not know how long he had been sitting there. In front of him lay a test serum.
It had not yet been proven completely reliable, so how could it be used for human trials?
Even if human trials were necessary, they had to involve volunteers who had signed proper consent forms, not disabled veterans kept in the dark.
Before he became a scientist, he had been a military doctor. His own arm had been amputated because of a bomb. His original intention was to help these disabled veterans, not harm them.
Dr. Connors felt tormented inside. After making a difficult decision, he picked up the serum in front of him, preparing to test it on himself.
Science requires a bit of self-sacrifice! Dr. Connors gritted his teeth and got ready to inject the serum into his body.
"Oh no! Dr., are you crazy?!" Just as Dr. Connors was about to inject the serum, Peter suddenly burst into the office.
Peter snatched the serum from Dr. Connors and said in a grave tone, "Dr., our serum might have a problem."
"Dr., I think you'd better come with me to take a look." Without waiting for a reply, Peter pulled Dr. Connors toward the biological observation lab.
In the lab, the iron cages that had held the two white rats were destroyed. The countertop was a mess, with faint traces of blood visible.
Gwen stood to the side, still looking shaken and clearly frightened.
"Dr., I think you'd better look at this first," Peter said with a serious expression. He led the puzzled Dr. Connors to the side.
The body of a small white rat lay quietly there, and next to it was a rat-shaped lizard. This creature was five times larger than a normal white rat.
Its thick leg muscles, sharp claws, and scarlet, bloodthirsty eyes all indicated its ferocity.
"Oh my goodness! What is this?!" Dr. Connors could not help but widen his eyes.
The rat-shaped lizard was confined in a much sturdier iron cage, the kind typically used for larger animals such as bulldogs.
"This is one of the white rats we tested earlier. It suddenly mutated just now and turned into this form," Peter said, his expression solemn and his tone dejected.
His proud experiment had undergone such a drastic change, which was incredibly frustrating.
"It became stronger, more robust, and more bloodthirsty. It bit its companion to death," Peter continued. "Dr., I think our experiment failed."
He quickly grew excited again. "But Dr., now that we have this creature, perhaps we can research why this mutation occurred and which part went wrong. As long as we eliminate these mutation factors, our experiment might still succeed!"
"Oh no!" Dr. Connors was thunderstruck at the sight of the rat-shaped lizard.
He barely heard Peter's later words. Suddenly, he remembered the serum Tim had taken.
He quickly grabbed Peter's shoulder and said, "God help us. I hope it's not too late. We must stop him!"
"Stop what, Dr.?" Peter asked, confused.
"Tim took a serum. He's going to use it for human trials. We need to tell him about this result right away. I hope it's not too late and that it doesn't create a monster," Dr. Connors explained. After a moment of shock, he strode toward his office while speaking.
"What? How dare he!" Peter felt unprecedented anger. "The serum hasn't even succeeded in animal trials! How can it be used on humans? Are they crazy?"
This serum had his participation in it.
If innocent people were harmed because of it, he would also bear responsibility. It would be like letting a gangster go free, only for that gangster to hurt his uncle—an unforgivable sin!
"This is Dr. Connors. Please connect me to Mr. Tim," Dr. Connors said as he dialed the company's main switchboard.
"I'm sorry, Dr. Connors. Mr. Tim has gone to visit Mr. Norman and cannot take your call at the moment," Tim's secretary replied.
"Regarding the serum Tim took from me, do you know where it is now? This serum is extremely dangerous. Do not use it for human trials, otherwise it will create a very terrifying monster!" Dr. Connors warned.
"I'm very sorry, Dr. Connors. I don't know the whereabouts of this serum. I will inform Mr. Tim when he returns," the secretary said.
Dr. Connors hung up the phone, looking preoccupied. Peter asked from the side, "Dr., how is it?"
"Tim is visiting Mr. Norman and cannot take calls. The whereabouts of the serum are unknown. We can only pray that Tim has not yet used it on a human," Dr. Connors said helplessly.
"Damn it!" Peter cursed under his breath.
They could only wait for Tim's visit with Norman Osborn to end.
