Chapter 17 - FALLING

TWO MONTHS LATER...

Two months had passed since I first arrived in Safe Land, and while the days were gradually getting easier, the isolation I felt remained.

The other hunters avoided me, and I had no desire to change that. My fear of their judgment lingered, the weight of it pressed against the back of my throat whenever I walked through the common areas.

But, I had learned to coexist with it, even if it meant keeping to myself, eating alone, pretending I didn't notice the way their conversations dropped whenever I passed.

Devon, on the other hand, had become the opposite of that isolation. He continued to train me, sometimes relentlessly, from dawn until well past dusk.

At first, the endless drills felt like torture. My muscles burned. My hands bled. There were nights I fell asleep before I could even think about dinner. But as the days wore on, my body grew stronger, and I started to appreciate the challenge.
