I rarely had dreams, and that night was one of the few times I did.
Someone was getting closer to me.
I couldn't move. Not because I didn't want to, but because something held me in place. My body was frozen on the bed, my limbs unresponsive as though heavy chains pressed down on me. I tried to turn my head. I couldn't. I tried to call out, nothing came.
The air grew thick, suffocating me.
Then, a hot, too real breath ghosted across my neck, sending a violent shiver down my spine. Every nerve in my body lit up at once, my skin prickling as dread settled deep in my bones.
And then—
A sharp, searing pain followed, so intense it sliced through me, bone-deep. It went all the way down my entire body, like being split open from the inside. Yet, my mouth couldn't move to scream.
Then it was over.
I gasped awake, lurching upright. My heart slammed against my ribs as I sucked in desperate breaths, my whole body convinced for one terrible second that the pain was still happening.
