Sarah drew in a long, shaky breath before her trembling hand finally reached for the doorknob. Her chest was still rising and falling unevenly after running all the way from the taxi to the elevator, then rushing again through the long corridor toward the CEO's office. Every hurried step she had taken felt heavier than the last, as though fear itself had wrapped around her ankles and dragged her down.
Jayden was definitely going to be angry. The thought had been circling endlessly inside her mind during the entire ride back to SJ Corp. She had left the company without permission. Worse, she had disappeared in the middle of work hours because of Keith. No matter how she tried to justify it to herself, she knew she had broken company rules.
But she had no choice. Keith had cornered her again, forcing her into another exhausting argument that left her emotionally drained. Even now, just remembering his expression made her stomach twist painfully.
