Chapter 50 - Drawing books

A couple days later Kavitha was finally done with making the drawing books. It took some time but the five editions were perfect for people below the age of ten.

Now it was the time to design some perfect covers for these books, After all children would be more attracted if the cover was more attractive. Arjun felt this was better to be offloaded to the people at studio who were eager to prove their worth.

Arjun also felt it would be better to add some of their new monster models according to their complexity in the books too. This would help attract more eyes during their release.

He called the office and luckily it was Sumanth who picked the call.

Sumanth, how's the work?

It's progressing well Arjun, we have even made over fifteen monster models already and fine tuning them. Our new thirty six stroke rule is proving to be very effective.

Alright Anna, i am thinking of including some monster arts and how to draw them in the new drawing books i am making. Arjun explained how his new drawing books would work.

Sumanth was impressed by this and promised he would get this done as soon as possible.

Not as soon as possible i want them done within the upcoming week also i want you people to make some attractive looking cover models for the drawing books Arjun replied.

Alright let me take care of this Sumanth replied much more seriously this time and hung up the call.

Arjun then thought more about it and felt including their logo as a part of drawing page would be good too and went to his mom to express his thoughts.

Arjun felt this would be best way to advertise the logo to younger kids and make them more accustomed to the logo. He wanted at least some of them to associate the logo with creativity as they grow up.

But making them interesting might be a tough job to do.

When Kavitha heard about the new idea she was amazed. She never thought of imprinting logo in people's minds in such manner. As she was thinking about how to make them look interesting she suddenly got a inspiration and informed about her thoughts to Arjun.

For the first book which was for small kids they could make them simply draw the logo, for the second book they can use polka dot styling to do the same logo, for the third book they could do the same using dashed lines for one of them they could shade the logo and so on.

Arjun felt this was perfect. If someone really did purchase all five editions and completed them, the logo would probably be implanted in their minds all their life.

They refined the designs for a couple hours to make the drawing pages that would fit their drawing book philosophy and design style.

The next day Arjun visited the press for the first time in the last month, Even though he handled the delivery process Arjun never had the time to visit the press and observe situation closely.

Seeing Mallesh Yadav and his son busy working Arjun was gratified. He was informed by Pratap that these two did overtime every day from the day press started to keep up to the demand, Arjun was very happy with their dedication and felt it would not be a waste to hand them the shares but it was not yet the time to do so.

He approached Mallesh asking him to take a short break and showed his design books and asked for his suggestions on paper quality they should use for the drawing books as Arjun wanted these to be on a higher quality end.

Arjun was willing to loose little profits as trying to sell these would be very difficult thing to do and instead want to choose the high end route. Also using their logos in a lower end product to get a better impression of their logo was not really suitable.

Mallesh who heard about his requirements thought for a while before suggestion Cartridge paper as the perfect type of paper for these kinds of books.

Even though it was not available in bright white it works perfectly for crayons and watercolors as well as pencil strokes being more highlighted. This was the one type of paper which feels more closer to artist-grade papers but available for considerably lesser price.

The Cartridge paper was of 150 GSM quality while most of the present drawing books used sixty to eighty GSM papers which would tear very easily too.

Arjun felt this kind of paper would do the job perfectly and enquired Mallesh about pricing of these. When he learned that these would cost around twenty five rupees per kg when the normal papers usually used in these kind of books only costed ten rupees he was taken aback.

Especially considering the paper they use for their current All in One's and other books costed only six rupees per kilo the premium version seemed too costly. But since he was aiming for the higher end market the pricing could be somewhat justified.

As for the cover Mallesh suggested using Thick Board Cover which was made from 300 GSM board and informed Arjun that no new machinery would be needed and just the current offset printing machinery would do the job but instead he mentioned lamination could be used on them to make them look more premium.

Arjun felt this would be perfect as very few books used lamination for kids books during these times and promised Mallesh to get a proper lamination machine by the upcoming week when Arjun wanted the production of his new drawing books to get started.

He bid farewell to the father and son after reminding them to have some proper rest if time permits and joined Karan who was ready to leave to go and have some fun at the beach.

Things were getting more busier at the local fishing docks with more frequent inspections these days. It seemed Madan was going to get his ticket soon but this was expected since he got it in his past life without any such industrial innovation but just his money and popularity which was almost twice or thrice the amount compared to his past life.

Arjun wanted to get Balram as soon as possible since the village would be in limelight as soon as Madan gets the ticket for the upcoming elections. Especially with the recent passing of the political leader in Vijayawada many were itching to get their hands on that seat.

Arjun sometimes wondered how Madan managed to survive for so long without any protection in this area. This was something he wanted to enquire but since it was a very invasive question he did not have the courage to ask him after receiving so much help from him.

When Arjun enquired Karan about his dad's ticket situation he got a questioning glance from his bestie and could only let it go. Alas even though this kid was learning more about business side of things he did not care one bit about politics or his dad.

The next day Arjun went to meet with Venkateshwar Rao to discuss about the exams matter. Unfortunately the shipment was coming right in the middle of his exam schedule and he wanted to something about this.

What is it Arjun? How are the All in One sales going Venkateshwar Rao questioned.

I am not here about them sir but they're going very well we've already sold around fifty thousand All in Ones by now.

Venkateshwar Rao was stunned. fifty thousand? wouldn't that mean you made around twenty lakh rupees in the past few months? Venkateshwar Rao asked unable to close his mouth.

Well sir we also have our production costs and distribution costs which are yet to be distributed after all of those our profit is considerably lower Arjun tried to dampen this old mans mood a little as it was quite unfitting for a principal to give such expressions.

The head master quickly recovered and questioned again so what brings you here then?

Well sir, i have a shipment coming from foreign in the upcoming month.

So? what does that have to do with the school?

Sir my exams are coinciding with the delivery time, would it be possible to prepone or postpone the exams for me?

Hmmm.... You know this has never been done before right?

Yes sir but i still wanted to enquire if this was a possibility.

I think we can do this let me meet with the teachers to come up with new dates, but are you sure you're prepared enough for the exams?

Yes sir all i need you to do is prepone the exams.

Alright leave that to me Venkateshwar Rao sent him off and began to think. What this kid asked was not so excessive, he was already thankful the kid didn't ask him to pass him directly like many other rich kids had done so in his previous private schools.
