He must have noticed my confusion because he quickly explained, "I'm Tom, Dr. Harrison's assistant."
Realization dawned on me.
No wonder he looked familiar.
"Oh... I'm sorry for not recognizing you. It's been a while."
"Don't worry about that, Mrs. Blackwood."
Somehow, hearing someone call me Mrs. Blackwood again after two years felt both familiar and unfamiliar.
Two years ago, just hearing that title irritated me.
But now...
Surprisingly, I felt nothing at all.
It was as though all those emotions had faded away with time.
"Do you want to check on her?" Alexander asked, his voice noticeably softer.
I nodded.
Tom had already gone back inside.
Alexander pushed the door open, and once again I was surprised by what I saw.
