KIEFER'S POV:
I sat in my car a few blocks away from the café watching the street.
Lucas. That name kept popping up in my mind.
I had seen him the night Keira died.
Something about him doesn't feel right.
Not dangerous…not yet. But suspicious. Enough to keep an eye on.
I clenched my jaw.
I wasn't going to tell Jay yet. She already hated me enough. If she found out I was watching Lucas…she'd probabaly explode.
Just like she always did when I tried to protect her.
Speaking of her…
My thoughts went to the café earlier.
The way she stumbled. The way she blushed when I caught her. The way her eyes flashed with anger…
Typical Jay — stubborn, angry but always…alive.
And damn it, everytime I saw her like this, I wanted to shake her. Kiss her👀.
But I couldn't.
Not yet.
I groaned quietly.
Stop thinking about her, I muttered.
A car pulled up nearby. Some officer from the station, who always mocks Jay, rolled down his window.
"Keifer, my friend," he sneered, "still after that girl?"
My eyes darkened and I saw anger.
I slammed my hand hard on the wheering steel.
"Shut your mouth," I hissed.
He laughed, like it was a joke. "Relax, she's so stubborn and dumb."
My patience has gone. No one talks to my Jay like that.
"She is not dumb," I snapped. "And she's smarter than you'll ever be. Don't you dare insult her..or else."
He froze.
I glared at him. My temper flaring, my voice low and dangerous.
"Got it?"
The man nodded quickly and drove off.
Useless people.
I exhaled, running a hand through my hair.
Lucas. Jay. The warehouse.
I had to be careful.
She still thought I killed Keira. And if I messed up…if she got hurt…
I couldn't forgive myself. Never.💔
