JAY'S POV:
I walked toward the park where Lucas usually hung out.
We tracked his location. Section E is the best at tracking of course. Classic Section E, my friends♥️
My heart was tight. Angry. Nervous.
Raefel and the rest of Section E followed a few steps behind.
Lucas was sitting on a bench, reading a book. He didn't see me coming.
"Lucas," I called sharply.
He jumped and looked up.
"Jay…Jay Jay," he stammered. "What…what's going on?"
"You know exactly what's going on," I said in anger and hurt. "Why were you meeting Keira the night she died?"
He blinked. Hesitated.
"I…I didn't…" he started, then swallowed. "I mean…it's complicated."
"Complicated?!" I shouted. "Your best friend is dead, and you call it complicated?!!"
He flinched, like my words actually hurt him.
"I wasn't…I didn't kill her," he said quickly. "I swear!"
I crossed my arms, studying him. He looked nervous. Too nervous.
"Then why were you meeting her secretly?" I asked.
He opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened it again.
"I…I just wanted to help her," he said finally. "She…she found something dangerous. Something she didn't want anyone to know. I was trying to protect her."
I froze.
But my anger didn't leave me.
"You expect me to believe that?!" I snapped.
Lucas looked down. His hands shook slightly.
"Yes…I know it looks bad, but I didn't—"
"Stop!" I yelled, cutting him off. "I am tired of lies. I don't know who to trust anymore!"
Raefel and my other friends stepped closer.
"Jay, calm down. He might be telling the truth. Maybe we need to…look deeper."
I shook my head, my eyes still on Lucas.
"You are hiding something," I said. "And I'll find out what it is."
Lucas nodded, acting all innocent.
For a moment, silence fell.
Then I muttered under my breath, more to myself…
"And Keifer…he is still hiding something too… I know it."
My chest tightened.
Even with Lucas in front of me, I couldn't shake the suspicion of the man who had saved me that night.
Keifer.
The man I hated…and somehow, the man I couldn't stop thinking about…for some reason.
