Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4: The Liar, the Mansion, and the Silver ShipThe East Blue was a vast, shimmering tapestry of indigo and gold under the high noon sun. Our small dinghy, which had carried us through the storms of Shells Town and the chaos of Orange Town, was now practically overflowing. Luffy was sprawled across the center, his limbs tangled with a half-eaten Sea Beast rib. Zoro was leaning against the mast, snoozing with one eye open, his hand never straying far from the hilt of the Wado Ichimonji. And then there was our newest addition.Nami sat at the stern, her brow furrowed as she pored over a weathered sea chart. Beside her sat the massive gold bar I had gifted her, which she treated with more affection than she did any of us. Every few minutes, she would glance up at me, her orange eyes flicking toward my white hair and then down to the Silver Ring on my finger."Silver," she said, her voice tight with a mixture of curiosity and lingering suspicion. "We've been sailing for three days. You haven't eaten, you haven't slept, and you've been staring at the sun the entire time. Are you even human?"I adjusted my dark, circular sunglasses, the celestial blue of my eyes hidden behind the tinted glass. I could feel the solar radiation being pulled into my skin, a constant stream of high-octane fuel that rendered biological needs like sleep and food entirely optional."Human is a relative term, Nami," I replied, my voice as smooth as polished marble. "I was born a Monkey D., just like Luffy. But the fruit I ate... it changed the 'definition' of what I am. I don't need to sleep because the sun never stops burning. I don't need to eat because I consume energy directly from the source.""That's... that's cheating," Nami muttered, though she looked longingly at the sun, perhaps wishing she could save on food costs too. "Anyway, we're approaching the Gecko Islands. There's a small place called Syrup Village. It's quiet, isolated, and most importantly, it's wealthy. If we want a real ship, that's where we'll find one.""A real ship!" Luffy sat up instantly, his straw hat nearly flying off. "I want a figurehead! Something cool! Like a lion! Or a meat-bone!""We'll see what the village has to offer," I said, looking toward the lush, green cliffs rising from the sea. "But I think we're being watched."As the boat scraped against the sandy shore of a secluded cove, a high-pitched, cracking voice echoed from the clifftop above."HALT, PIRATES! YOU STAND ON THE BORDERS OF THE GREAT USOPP EMPIRE! BEYOND THIS POINT LIES AN ARMY OF EIGHTY MILLION MEN! DEPART NOW, OR FACE THE WRATH OF THE CAPTAIN!"A long-nosed teenager with a bandana and a slingshot stood silhouetted against the sun, shaking like a leaf despite his bold words. Behind him, three small children popped their heads up, looking significantly less threatening.Luffy blinked. "Eighty million? That's a lot of people for such a small island.""He's lying," Nami sighed, stepping onto the sand. "Look at his legs. They're shaking so hard they're making a beat."The boy, Usopp, tumbled down the cliffside, landing face-first in the sand. He scrambled up, pointing his slingshot at me. "I... I wasn't lying! It's a tactical feint! Who are you?! And why does that guy look like a god of fashion?!""I'm Monkey D. Silver," I said, walking past him. The sand beneath my boots didn't shift; I moved with a weightless grace that made Usopp stumble back. "And we're looking for a ship. We heard there's a mansion on this island with a very kind lady."Usopp's expression shifted instantly. The bravado vanished, replaced by a fierce, protective glint. "You stay away from Kaya! She's sick! She doesn't need pirates bothering her!""We aren't here to bother her, Usopp," I said, stopping in front of him. I looked into his eyes, seeing the fear, the loneliness, and the desperate need to be the hero his father, Yasopp, was. "We're here to save her.""Save her?" Usopp scoffed. "The best doctors in the East Blue couldn't cure her. She's just... fading away.""That's because they're looking at the symptoms," I said, my Silver Age intuition whispering the truth to me. "Not the poison in the house."Syrup Village was beautiful—rolling hills, white-picket fences, and a sense of stagnant peace. But as we approached the grand mansion on the hill, the air grew cold. Standing at the gate was a man in a black suit, his glasses slipping down his nose as he adjusted them with the palm of his hand.Klahadore. Or as I knew him, Captain Kuro of a Thousand Plans."May I help you, travelers?" Klahadore asked, his voice a calculated purr of subservience. "This is private property. Miss Kaya is not receiving guests."Luffy stepped forward, his hands behind his head. "We want a ship! And Usopp said you have a big one!""Usopp is a liar and a nuisance," Klahadore said, his eyes narrowing behind his lenses. "He fills Miss Kaya's head with nonsense. I must ask you to leave before I call the authorities."I stepped in front of Luffy. I didn't say a word. I simply removed my sunglasses. The blue of my eyes struck Klahadore like a physical blow. To him, it wasn't just a colour; it was a realization of power. Through the Rikugan-like clarity of my fruit, I saw the truth of his body—the coiled muscles of a predator, the calluses on his fingers from years of wielding "Cat Claws," and the cold, vibrating mana of a man who had murdered his own soul for a quiet life."You've been playing the part of a sheep for three years, Kuro," I said, my voice dropping to a frequency that only he could hear. "But your scent still reeks of the sea and blood. You aren't protecting Kaya. You're waiting for her to sign the will."Klahadore's composure broke for a fraction of a second. His hand twitched toward his pocket. "I don't know what you're talking about, boy. You've clearly spent too much time in the sun.""Silver, what's he talking about?" Luffy asked, sensing the tension."He's a pirate, Luffy," I said, turning back to my Captain. "The kind that kills the people who trust him. He plans to slaughter the village tomorrow morning to cover his tracks.""IS THAT TRUE?!" Usopp screamed, his face pale."LIAR!" Helmeppo—wait, no, that was the other one. "GET OUT!" Klahadore roared, dropping the act. He adjusted his glasses with his palm, a habit he couldn't break. "If you stay, you die today instead of tomorrow!"Night fell over Syrup Village. On the winding "Slope of Death," Kuro's crew—the Black Cat Pirates—emerged from the fog. Hundreds of men, armed with scimitars and pistols, led by the hypnotist Jango and the brothers Sham and Buchi.Usopp stood at the top of the slope, his slingshot shaking. Zoro stood beside him, his three swords drawn, looking bored. Nami was busy setting traps, her eyes on the gold bar she'd left in the boat."Luffy, Zoro, take the crew," I said, standing at the very edge of the cliff. "I'll handle the Captain.""YOU?!" Kuro laughed, appearing on a high branch. He was wearing his specialized gloves—ten long, razor-sharp katana blades attached to his fingers. "I am the master of the 'Nuki Ashi'! I move faster than the eye can see! You're just a statue in a suit!"Kuro vanished. In the eyes of the other pirates, he had simply ceased to exist. He was a blur of lethal intent, moving at speeds that transcended the human limit. He appeared behind me, his ten blades swinging in a horizontal cross designed to decapitate me.CLANG.The blades didn't cut my neck. They hit the Neutral Infinity—the microscopic barrier of infinite space I maintained around my body. Kuro's eyes widened as his blades stopped dead an inch from my skin, vibrating with a high-pitched whine."Speed is a concept of distance over time, Kuro," I said, not even turning around. "But if the distance between us is infinite, you can never arrive."I reached back and gripped the bundle of blades with my bare hand. The steel groaned and shattered like glass under my grip. I turned, looking him in the eye."You wanted a quiet life? I'll give you one."I raised my index finger."Concept: Absolute Weight."I tapped Kuro on the chest. In an instant, the gravity around Kuro multiplied by a thousand. The ground beneath him shattered, a crater forming in the cliffside as he was slammed into the dirt. He couldn't move a finger; his own bones were beginning to crack under the weight of his own existence."I... I am... a genius..." Kuro wheezed, blood coughing from his lips."A genius who forgot that in the face of the sun, all shadows vanish," I said.I looked down at the slope. Luffy had already knocked out Jango, and Zoro had sliced Sham and Buchi into ribbons. The Black Cat Pirates were fleeing back to their ships, terrified by the monsters they had encountered. The next morning, the village was safe. Kaya, having heard the truth from Usopp and seeing the defeat of her "kind" butler, stood at the gates of her mansion. She looked pale, but for the first time in years, she was smiling."Usopp... you were telling the truth," she whispered."I told you! I'm a brave warrior of the sea!" Usopp cheered, though he was crying."Captain Luffy, Silver-san," Kaya said, turning to us. "You saved my life. And the life of my village. Please... accept this gift. It's a ship my late father commissioned. It's called the Going Merry."It was a beautiful caravel—small, sturdy, with a sheep figurehead at the prow. To any ordinary pirate, it was a dream come true. But as I looked at it, I saw its 'limitations.' In the Grand Line, wood and sails wouldn't be enough."It's a fine ship, Kaya," I said, walking toward the docks. "But it needs a little... 'Silver' touch."I stepped onto the deck of the Merry. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp (who had officially joined the crew) watched as I closed my eyes. I felt the Silver Superman within me roar to life. I wasn't just a man; I was the architect of reality."Concept: Adamant Hull," I whispered. "Concept: Soul of the Sea."I knelt and pressed my palms against the wooden deck.A silver light erupted from my hands, flowing through the wood like liquid mercury. The crew shielded their eyes as the Merry began to change. The wood didn't disappear; it became molecularly bonded with a silver-white alloy from my thought-creation. The sheep figurehead's eyes turned into glowing blue gems. The sails shifted from canvas to a shimmering, solar-reactive fabric that captured the light of the sun to propel the ship even in a dead calm.Inside, the cabins expanded. The kitchen became a chef's paradise. And at the center of the ship, a small, glowing silver sphere appeared—the "Heart" of the ship."What did you do?!" Nami screamed, running her hands over the shimmering, silver-wood railing. "The wood... it feels like silk, but it's harder than steel!""I gave the Merry a soul," I said, standing up. "She's no longer just a ship. She's a conceptual fortress. She will never rot, she will never sink, and she will always find her way home."Luffy ran to the sheep figurehead, hugging it. "MERRY! YOU'RE AWESOME! SILVER, YOU'RE THE BEST!"Usopp was crying again. "I... I'm the sniper of a silver ship! My legend begins here!"As we set sail, leaving a waving Kaya behind, the Going Merry didn't just move; she glided across the water at speeds that would leave a Marine warship in the dust. I sat on the railing, looking at the sun."Silver," Zoro said, leaning against the now-indestructible mast. "Where to next?""The Baratie," I said, my blue eyes fixed on the horizon. "We need a chef. And I think there's a certain 'Hawk' waiting to test your blade, Zoro."Zoro's hand tightened on his sword. "A Hawk... Mihawk?""The World's Greatest," I smiled. "But don't worry. I'll make sure you don't die. After all, a King needs his Shadow."
