Chapter 38 - An interesting visitor.

In a snowy mountain inside Eldrin's wooden cabin.

Eldrin was sitting on his favourite couch, reading a book, but then turned his head when he heard someone knocking on his door.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Eldrin got up from his couch and went to open the door, revealing a woman wearing a yellow robe with a shaved head.

"Oh, what a pleasant surprise, I did not expect a visitor" said Eldrin while politely gesturing for her to enter, and enter she did.

The ancient one looked around the wooden cabin and then looked back at the too-tall man that she had been observing for quite some time, and said with a mysterious smile.

"I have been observing you for quite some time, and I must say, at first I thought you were an interdimensional demon, but your actions proved otherwise."

"You have stolen my job, Eldrin." she also added with fake frustration.

Eldrin, unfazed, answered with a polite smile.

"One less burden for a protector as responsible as you, though it was not my intention to steal your job"

The ancient one couldn't help but be amused, and she said.

"You really are a strange man, with an interesting future that will change the world even more"

"And one that I must personally witness" thought the ancient one.

Eldrin was intrigued by what she said, and assumed that she saw his future, yet he didn't ask.

Seeing Eldrin's silence, the ancient one was surprised; she was sure that Eldrin would ask her about his future.

"You keep surprising me, you don't act like a normal living being; it seems curiosity cannot control you" said The ancient one puzzled.

"There's no need to know my future; if it were unpleasant and put this world into danger, you would have already eliminated me, yet here I'm still alive"

"How do you know I'm not here to eliminate you" asked the ancient one with an eerie smile.

"You wouldn't have walked through that door if you were, you know better than that" said Eldrin calmly.

"And although I might not be nearly as powerful as you, I can assure mutual destruction at this distance, after all, your body is still mortal; I doubt you could heal a hole in your head" said Eldrin with a smile too gentle and continued.

"It would be better off to assassinate me while I'm unaware, at a safe distance of course"

The atmosphere became tense and eerie, and both figures wore gentle smiles that did not feel so gentle.

The ancient one was the first to break the tense silence.

"You have guts too, truly worthy of being a protector" said the ancient one who was apparently messing with Eldrin to see his reaction.

"I'm flattered, though unfortunately, my body lacks organs"

The ancient one rolled her eyes when she heard that and said.

"You really have to work on your humor; it's honestly unbearable"

Eldrin sighed in what seemed to be disappointment and said.

"Even after four hundred years, it's still not good enough; perhaps it's just not meant to be.

The ancient one froze when she heard that, she did expect Eldrin to be old, but not that old; she herself is 700 years old.

"Are you long li-"

"Ageless" interrupted Eldrin.

The ancient one seemed interested; if there was a chance to stop relying on the dark dimension, she would take it.

"What's the secret?"

"Well, in my case, I simply do not age due to my nature, technically speaking, in a way I could be considered an elemental spirit, though that's simply a logical assumption based on my current abilities" answered Eldrin, and then continued.

"But if you desire a longer lifespan"

Eldrin paused, a vial appearing in his hands, and continued.

"The only thing you have to do is evolve your species, though I must warn you, depending on your current powers you may evolve to something entirely different"

The ancient one looked at the vial in Eldrin's hand with a frown, she was aware of what it was, after all, she had been observing all sorts of things that the human empire made, yet, up until this point, she was hesitant to use one, thinking it was simply beneath her to use it, but now that she thought about it, it couldn't be worse than relying on the dark dimension.

She took the serum and directly injected it into her arm, and for the first time in years, she felt agony to the point she almost fell, but Eldrin caught her and put her on his couch in a lying position.

Even Eldrin did not expect her to actually inject the serum; he was merely making a suggestion, expecting her to reject due to her principles.

"What could have changed her mind" thought Eldrin perplexed yet suspicious.

After 30 minutes of agonising pain, the transformation was complete.

The ancient one's eyes widened.

She felt renewed, better than ever, physically stronger even, but that's not what shocked her; her body actually had magic power in it, it could generate it too, something all sorcerers dream of but could never achieve due to being born without the ability to do so.

She no longer has to rely on drawing magic power externally or from the dark dimension; she now has her own magic power to fuel her spells.

She could now be considered a true sorceress.

Note: Majin, or otherwise known as magic-born, are beings born with innate potent magical abilities and magic power within their bodies; not only that, they possess immense physical capabilities capable of lifting more than 20 tonnes, run at 170 kmh, and with a lifespan of 6000 years, which could increase considerably the more their magical reserves increase. Magi can also be artificially created by injecting sorcerers with the evolution serum.

An ''accident'' with the spacestone will happen in a few chapters from now.
