Chapter 38 - Episode 38 : Heirs Awaken

"A city bought them time. Now the heirs would decide whether that sacrifice had meaning."

Chamber Zero

Silence.

The thunder of war no longer reached the ancient chamber.

Only three bronze pillars of light remained.

Within each stood one of Thomarion's sons.

The First Defender slowly rose to its full height.

Its bronze armor radiated with the brilliance of a rising sun.

For centuries...

it had waited.

Not for warriors.

Not for kings.

For successors.

The guardian planted its colossal sword into the floor.

The impact echoed through every hidden foundation beneath Aurion Citadel.

"The Three Trials are complete."

The bronze circles surrounding the brothers shattered into thousands of glowing fragments.

Dorion...

Lirion...

Sorion...

opened their eyes.

The Trial Rewards

The First Defender approached Dorion first.

It removed a fragment from its own shield.

A shield that had protected Orinthal for a thousand years.

The fragment dissolved into liquid bronze before merging with Dorion's armor.

New plates formed around his shoulders.

Ancient runes ignited.

"You chose others above yourself."

"You shall become the Wall."

Dorion felt the weight of the city itself flow into him.

The guardian turned toward Lirion.

A bronze crystal floated from its chest.

Inside it flowed countless streams of forgotten knowledge.

Entire civilizations.

Ancient blueprints.

Living algorithms.

The crystal entered Lirion's gauntlet.

His eyes flashed gold.

Every machine beneath Aurion Citadel suddenly appeared within his mind.

He could feel them.

Every conduit.

Every engine.

Every Bronze Titan.

The city itself had become part of his consciousness.

"Knowledge without wisdom destroys."

"Wisdom without action fades."

"You shall become the Mind."

Finally...

The guardian faced Sorion.

It placed two fingers upon his forehead.

Silver light spread throughout Chamber Zero.

Sorion saw everything.

The Great War.

The Founder.

The first Bronze Plate.

The birth of Orinthal.

Every memory the city had ever preserved.

When the vision ended...

His silver eyes glowed brighter than before.

"Memory is not the past."

"Memory is the bridge that carries tomorrow."

"You shall become the Heart."

The Last Lesson

The First Defender looked upon the brothers.

Its voice softened.

"Power alone has never saved civilizations."

"Unity has."

Behind the guardian...

an enormous bronze vault slowly opened.

Inside rested three relics.

Not weapons.

Standards.

Ancient banners bearing the Orion Star Crest.

Each banner represented one pillar of Orinthal.

Strength.

Wisdom.

Compassion.

The guardian spoke.

"Carry these..."

"...and humanity will remember."

The Battle Above

Suddenly...

The chamber shook violently.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

Explosions echoed overhead.

The guardian looked upward.

"The city..."

"...still stands."

Another explosion.

Even Chamber Zero trembled.

The First Defender extended one enormous hand.

A projection appeared.

The brothers saw Aurion Citadel.

And their smiles vanished.

The Price

The western district burned.

The eastern wall had collapsed again.

Iron Legion siege machines lay crippled across the valley.

Nordfrost shield walls had been pushed back to the second gate.

Sunscorched Reveland warriors fought among burning streets.

Veilkeeper Scouts battled inside the city itself.

Hunters of the Serpent Wastes defended rooftops with blades instead of arrows.

The Ironhide Clan still guarded the eastern breach...

But barely.

Bardin...

continued to play.

His frog exo-suit was scratched and scorched, its auxiliary arms tirelessly drawing the violin bow while the rear mechanical hands struck bronze percussion drums. His melody still echoed across the city.

The song remained.

Even as everything else fell apart.

AZRAK-9 Descends

The colossal machine had finally reached the outer walls.

Each footstep shattered ancient stone.

Every cannon on its body rotated toward the Founder Hall.

Its massive hand gripped the broken battlements.

The walls groaned.

For the first time...

AZRAK-9 touched Aurion Citadel.

Commander Cassian shouted,

"IT'S BREACHED THE WALL!"

The defenders charged.

Bronze Titans.

Ironhide veterans.

Nordfrost champions.

Sunscorched shock troops.

Veilkeepers.

Hunters.

All struck together.

Their attacks sparked against AZRAK-9's armor.

None could stop its advance.

The machine simply kept walking.

Straight toward the Machine Core.

The Heart Begins to Fail

Deep beneath the city—

The Orinthal Restoration Chamber pulsed again.

THOOM...

But the heartbeat sounded weaker.

Cracks spread across the bronze sphere.

One conduit exploded.

Then another.

Master Rowan stared in horror.

"We're losing the core!"

Engineers rushed forward.

They replaced conduits with bare hands.

They welded broken bronze beneath showers of sparks.

They knew the risk.

If the Chamber stopped...

The city would never heal again.

Still they worked.

The Guardian's Decision

Back inside Chamber Zero—

The First Defender looked upon the brothers.

"My duty..."

"...is complete."

It turned toward the sealed gate leading to the surface.

Massive gears awakened.

Ancient locks released one by one.

The colossal guardian lifted its shield.

"I guarded this city for one thousand years."

"Now..."

"I shall guard it..."

"...one final time."

The gates opened.

Light poured into Chamber Zero.

The First Defender took its first steps toward the battlefield.

Each step shook the foundations of Aurion Citadel.

Citizens looked up in astonishment as an immense bronze knight emerged from beneath the city, rising through hidden lifts older than recorded history.

The Orion Star Crest upon its shield shone like a second sunrise.

Across the battlefield, soldiers from every allied nation stopped and stared.

Hope had taken form.

Final Scene

AZRAK-9 turned.

For the first time...

It faced an equal.

The First Defender planted its colossal shield before the Founder Hall.

Bronze energy erupted across the battlefield.

The two titans looked upon one another in silence.

One was built to preserve civilization.

The other to erase it.

The First Defender raised its sword.

AZRAK-9 unfolded every remaining weapon.

The valley fell silent.

Two giants stood ready.

Behind one...

stood the united peoples of Orinthal.

Behind the other...

stood the endless Omnission Host.

The battle that would decide the fate of Aurion Citadel...

was about to begin.
