Chapter 5 - LINES BEGIN TO BLUR

The classroom was noisier than usual.

News travels fast… especially secrets.

By midday, almost everyone had heard the same thing:

Amara is from a wealthy family.

Some students looked at her with curiosity.

Others with envy.

A few with admiration.

But Amara… remained the same.

Quiet. Calm. Untouched.

Kian watched her from his seat.

She wasn't reacting to the attention.

That alone made him more curious.

"Why didn't you tell anyone?" Kian asked quietly.

Amara didn't look up from her book.

"Because it's not important."

Kian tilted his head slightly.

"To them, it is."

Amara finally closed her book and looked at him.

"Then they care about the wrong things."

Before Kian could respond, a voice interrupted from the doorway.

"Class president wants everyone outside."

It was Brielle.

She stood there confidently, holding a clipboard.

Moments later, students gathered in the school courtyard.

Brielle stood at the front like she owned the place.

And in a way… she acted like she did.

"We're organizing a special school event," Brielle announced.

"Group assignments will be paired randomly… but I've already arranged something special."

Her eyes briefly moved toward Amara… then Kian.

A teacher stepped forward.

"Pairs will be announced now."

Students got excited.

Whispers filled the air.

Names were called.

"Daniel and Mira."

"Samuel and Chloe."

"Brielle and—"

She paused.

Smiled slightly.

"…Kian."

The crowd reacted.

"Ahhh!"

"They're paired?"

"Interesting…"

Kian didn't react much.

But he noticed Brielle's smile.

She planned that.

Then the final pair:

"Amara and—"

A short pause.

Brielle looked directly at Amara.

"…Kian."

Silence.

Then murmurs exploded.

"Wait, what?!"

"Same person in two pairs?"

"That's not possible…"

The teacher frowned.

"Brielle, what is this?"

Brielle simply replied:

"Just a small adjustment."

Amara's eyes narrowed slightly.

This wasn't random.

Kian turned to Amara.

"Looks like we're working together again."

Amara sighed softly.

"This isn't coincidence."

Kian agreed.

"No. It's intentional."

Brielle walked closer to them.

"Don't worry," she said with a faint smile.

"This event will help everyone understand each other better."

Her eyes lingered on Amara.

Especially her.

But behind that smile… was something else.

A challenge.

Later that day…

Amara stood alone near the back of the school building.

Kian approached slowly.

"You've been avoiding the crowd," he said.

Amara didn't turn.

"I prefer it that way."

Kian stood beside her.

"Brielle isn't just creating attention," he said.

"She's targeting you."

Amara's expression remained calm.

"I know."

That response surprised him.

"So you're just going to ignore it?"

Amara finally looked at him.

"No."

A pause.

"I'm going to handle it… my way."

Kian smiled faintly.

"You always say that."

A slight silence followed.

Then Kian added:

"You know… whatever you're hiding… it's starting to catch up with you."

Amara's gaze softened… just a little.

"Not everything needs to be exposed."

Kian stepped closer.

"Then why do I feel like yours will be?"

Amara didn't answer.

Because deep down…

She knew he might be right.

At the same time…

Brielle stood at a distance, watching them.

Her expression had changed.

No longer playful.

Now serious.

Determined.

"She's still pretending…" Brielle muttered.

"But not for long."

She turned and walked away.

And for the first time…

It was clear this wasn't just school drama.

It was a battle.
