A Love That Stays
The sun drifted higher into the sky.
Golden light wrapped around them.
Soft.
Warm.
Elara lay back gently on the blanket.
Her head resting close to Damian's thigh.
Their baby now asleep between them.
Peaceful.
Damian looked down at them.
His fingers slowly tracing small patterns on the grass.
This…
Was something he never imagined having.
A family.
A moment without danger.
"Elara…"
He called softly.
She turned her head slightly to look at him.
"Hm?"
There was a softness in her eyes.
Something calm.
"If I had met you earlier…"
He paused.
"Do you think I would've been different?"
Elara didn't answer immediately.
Instead—
She sat up slowly.
Then moved closer to him.
"You're already different."
She said gently.
Damian looked at her.
"I mean before… all this."
Elara smiled softly.
"If you met me earlier…"
A pause.
"You probably wouldn't have noticed me."
He frowned slightly.
"I would have."
She shook her head lightly.
"You were too busy being… you."
A small silence passed.
Then she reached for his hand.
"But I met you when I was meant to."
Her thumb brushed against his fingers gently.
"And so did you."
Something in his chest eased.
Not completely.
But enough.
The wind picked up slightly.
Carrying laughter from far away.
Damian leaned back on his hands.
Looking at the sky.
"For once…"
He said quietly.
"I don't want anything else."
Elara looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
He turned his head slightly toward her.
"I don't want power."
A pause.
"I don't want control."
His gaze softened.
"I just want this."
Elara's heart melted completely.
She moved closer again.
Resting her head against his shoulder.
"Then keep it."
She whispered.
He wrapped his arm around her slowly.
Holding her closer.
Their baby stirred slightly.
A soft sound escaping her lips.
Both of them looked down at her instantly.
Damian adjusted his hold gently.
"She's going to grow up knowing peace," he said quietly.
Elara smiled.
"Because of you."
He shook his head slightly.
"Because of us."
That word—
Us.
Felt stronger than anything else.
The moment stretched.
Simple.
Real.
Elara lifted her head slightly.
Looking at him again.
Then—
She leaned in.
This time—
The kiss was deeper.
Warmer.
Still gentle—
But filled with everything they had been through.
Damian pulled her closer instinctively.
Like letting go wasn't an option anymore.
When they pulled apart, their foreheads rested together.
Neither of them spoke.
Because they didn't need to.
The love was already there.
Strong.
Quiet.
Unbreakable.
And in that moment—
Surrounded by green fields and sunlight—
They weren't just surviving anymore.
They were living.
