Chapter 172 - Cracks in the Calm

Part 2:Cracks in the Calm

The peace didn't last.

It never did.

Morning started like any other.

Soft voices.

Light laughter.

Seraphina's giggles echoing through the dining hall.

Elara sat beside her, brushing her hair gently.

"Stay still, sweetheart."

"I am staying still!"

Seraphina protested, wiggling anyway.

Ethan leaned against the chair, sipping his drink.

"She's definitely your daughter."

Elara rolled her eyes.

"And you're definitely a bad influence."

Ethan grinned.

"I prefer the word 'fun'."

Footsteps approached.

Heavy.

Calm.

Dangerous.

Damian.

The room shifted slightly the moment he entered.

Not fear—

But awareness.

His presence always did that.

He took his seat quietly.

His gaze moving briefly across the table.

Checking.

Observing.

Protecting.

Everything looked normal.

But it wasn't.

A phone buzzed.

Once.

Twice.

Damian's phone.

He picked it up.

His eyes scanned the message.

And in that second—

Everything changed.

His expression hardened.

Cold.

Sharp.

Elara noticed immediately.

"What is it?"

She asked softly.

Damian didn't respond.

He stood up.

"Lucas."

His voice was low.

Controlled.

Lucas appeared almost instantly.

"Yes?"

"We have a problem."

Ethan straightened slightly.

That tone again.

"What kind of problem?"

Lucas asked.

Damian's jaw tightened.

"Someone leaked information."

Silence fell instantly.

Ethan's expression changed.

Serious now.

"From inside?"

He asked.

Damian's eyes darkened.

"Yes."

That one word carried weight.

Danger.

Betrayal.

Elara felt it immediately.

Her chest tightened.

"Damian…"

She started.

But he raised his hand slightly.

Stopping her.

"I'll handle it."

That was all he said.

Then he turned—

And walked out.

Lucas followed closely behind.

The moment he left—

The room felt colder.

Seraphina looked up.

Confused.

"Mommy… what happened?"

Elara forced a soft smile.

"Nothing, baby."

But it wasn't nothing.

Ethan stood there.

Thinking.

"An inside leak…"

He muttered.

That wasn't small.

That was dangerous.

Very dangerous.

Inside the Restricted Room

The atmosphere was completely different now.

Dark.

Tense.

Deadly.

Damian stood at the center.

Several men lined up in front of him.

Silent.

Uneasy.

Lucas stood by his side.

Watching carefully.

"Someone here…"

Damian began slowly.

"…is a traitor."

No one spoke.

No one moved.

But fear spread quickly.

"I don't repeat myself."

His voice dropped.

Cold.

Sharp.

"Step forward."

Silence.

One second.

Two.

Three.

No one moved.

Damian nodded slowly.

"Alright."

He turned slightly.

"Then I'll find out myself."

And that…

Was worse.

Upstairs — Elara's Room

Elara paced slowly.

Restless.

Her mind racing.

She knew this side of Damian.

She had seen it before.

And every time—

It scared her.

A knock came at the door.

Ethan.

He stepped in.

"He's going to tear that place apart."

He said quietly.

Elara stopped pacing.

"I know."

A pause.

"We need to find who did it first."

Ethan added.

Elara looked at him.

Surprised.

"You want to get involved?"

Ethan gave a small shrug.

"If I'm here… I'm already involved."

Silence.

Then—

Elara nodded slowly.

"Then we do it carefully."

Ethan smirked slightly.

"When have I ever been careless?"

Elara gave him a look.

"Don't answer that."

Back in the Restricted Room

Damian stood still.

Watching.

Waiting.

One wrong move.

One mistake.

And someone would pay.

Because in his world—

Betrayal wasn't forgiven.

It was punished.

And this time…

The punishment would be worse than ever.

To be continued…
