Part 2: Two Worlds
The mansion was alive again.
Not with fear.
But with something lighter.
Balance.
Morning came with noise.
"Uncle Ethan! You're late!"
Seraphina's voice echoed through the hallway.
Ethan rushed out of his room, fixing his shirt halfway.
"Relax, tiny boss, I'm coming!"
She crossed her arms, pouting.
"You said you'll take me to school today!"
Ethan bent down to her level.
"And I will… if your scary daddy doesn't stop me."
Seraphina giggled.
Behind them—
Damian appeared.
Calm.
Collected.
"I heard that."
Ethan froze for a second.
Then smirked.
"Good. Means your ears work."
Elara walked in immediately.
"Ethan."
One word.
A warning.
He raised his hands in surrender.
"I'm joking."
Damian didn't respond.
But his eyes lingered on Ethan for a second longer than usual.
Measuring.
Then—
"Take her."
He said simply.
Ethan blinked.
"Wait… seriously?"
Damian picked up his watch.
"Be back on time."
Seraphina jumped happily.
"Yay!"
She grabbed Ethan's hand.
"Let's go!"
Ethan looked at Elara.
She gave a small nod.
"Don't be reckless."
"I'm always responsible."
He said confidently.
Damian and Elara both looked at him.
Unconvinced.
Outside — On the Road
The car moved smoothly through the streets.
Seraphina sat beside Ethan.
Talking non-stop.
"And then daddy carried me like this—"
She demonstrated dramatically.
Ethan laughed.
"You really run that house, don't you?"
She nodded proudly.
"I'm the boss."
"Clearly."
He replied.
Then—
His phone buzzed.
He glanced at it.
A message.
From Damian.
"Come straight back after."
Ethan smirked slightly.
"Work already…"
He muttered.
Later — Damian's Study
Ethan walked in.
This time—
No guards stopped him.
Damian sat at his desk.
Lucas beside him.
"You're late."
Damian said without looking up.
"I was dropping your boss off."
Ethan replied casually.
Lucas chuckled.
Damian didn't.
"Sit."
Ethan obeyed.
A laptop was pushed toward him.
"I need access to this server."
Damian said.
Ethan leaned forward.
Cracked his fingers slightly.
"Now we're talking."
His fingers moved quickly.
Focused.
Sharp.
Lucas watched again.
Still impressed.
"You really are wasting yourself in school."
Lucas muttered.
Ethan didn't look up.
"I like having options."
Damian's gaze flickered slightly at that.
Minutes passed.
"I'm in."
Ethan said calmly.
He turned the screen.
Damian nodded once.
"Good."
Then—
He added.
"Now leave."
Ethan blinked.
"That's it?"
"You have classes."
Damian replied.
Ethan stared at him for a second.
Then smirked.
"You're serious about this whole 'school' thing."
"I gave you a choice."
Damian said.
"I expect you to keep it."
Ethan stood up slowly.
"Alright…"
"Boss."
He added playfully.
Damian's eyes lifted slightly.
But he said nothing.
Ethan walked out.
Lucas leaned back.
"You trust him too quickly."
Damian's gaze remained on the door.
"I don't trust him."
A pause.
"I'm watching him."
Evening — The Mansion
Elara sat with Seraphina.
Helping her with homework.
"Mommy, is this right?"
Elara smiled softly.
"Yes, it is."
Footsteps approached.
Ethan walked in.
Dropping his bag.
"I'm exhausted."
"You went to school for one day."
Elara replied.
"It's stressful."
He said dramatically.
Seraphina laughed.
"Uncle Ethan is lazy!"
"I'm not lazy."
"Just selectively active."
Elara shook her head.
But she smiled.
For the first time in a while—
Things felt…
Normal.
But upstairs—
Standing by the window—
Damian watched quietly.
His world was dangerous.
Dark.
Unforgiving.
But downstairs—
They were light.
And somehow—
He was standing between both.
Trying to protect one…
Without destroying the other.
And that—
Was the hardest battle of all.
To be continued…
