Chapter 3: Sin in the Shed
The metal door rattled again.
Harder this time.
Not just scratching anymore...
Something was hitting it.
Relentless.
Hungry.
Violent.
Each impact echoed through the small storage shed like a war drum, shaking loose dust from the ceiling. The air inside was thick - hot, suffocating, laced with sweat, fear, and something far more dangerous.
Alex didn't look back.
Didn't care to.
The world outside had already gone to hell.
Screams still echoed faintly across the football field. Distant. Fading. Some cut short too quickly.
Others dragged on far too long.
But here,
Inside this cramped, dimly lit shed-
There was only one thing that felt real.
Elara.
Her back pressed against the cold metal wall. Her breath uneven.
Her eyes - those strange, beautiful eyes- glowing faintly in the darkness like embers that refused to die.
Alex had her pinned there, one arm braced beside her head, the other gripping her waist like if he let go - even for a second - she'd disappear into the chaos outside.
Or worse…
He'd lose control.
"Mine," he growled.
The word came out raw.
Possessive.
Primal.
It wasn't just emotion anymore. It was instinct.
"Monster or not…" his voice dropped lower, rougher, "you're mine."
The words should've sounded insane.
In another world, another life - they would have.
But that world was gone.
Burned.
Devoured.
Elara didn't flinch.
Didn't push him away.
Instead,
She leaned in.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Her lips brushed close to his ear, her breath warm against his skin.
"Then prove it," she whispered.
And something inside Alex snapped.
Not control---
Something deeper.
Something older.
The air between them shifted.
It wasn't just desire.
It was power.
Every inch closer sent a strange current through Alex's body.
Like electricity - but heavier. Warmer. Alive.
His heart pounded harder.
Faster.
Too fast.
His veins felt like they were burning from the inside out.
Elara's fingers slid lightly across his chest, and the moment her skin touched his,
He felt it.
A surge.
Not pain.
Not exactly pleasure.
Something in between.
Something dangerous.
His vision sharpened.
The darkness of the shed became clearer. Every detail - every shadow, every flicker of movement outside - etched into his mind with unnatural clarity.
His hearing sharpened too.
He could hear them now.
Every single one of them.
The creatures outside.
Dragging feet.
Gnashing teeth.
Wet, broken breathing.
Waiting.
Hunting.
And yet—
He didn't move.
Didn't pull away.
Because Elara…
She felt the same.
He could see it in her eyes.
That faint glow was stronger now.
Darker.
Hungrier.
"You feel it too…" Alex muttered, his voice quieter now, almost disbelieving.
Elara didn't answer immediately.
Her gaze dropped to his hands.
Then back to his eyes.
"…Yes," she said softly.
Outside—
BAM!
The door shook violently.
Metal groaned.
Something slammed against it with enough force to dent it inward.
Dust rained from the ceiling.
Still..
They didn't break apart.
Didn't step back.
Didn't run.
Because in that moment
The world outside didn't matter.
Only this did.
Only them.
Elara's hand moved again, this time slower.
Tracing the line of his arm.
His shoulder.
His neck.
Each touch sent another pulse through him.
Stronger this time.
Like something inside him was responding.
Awakening.
Reacting to her.
"What are you…" Alex started, his voice tightening.
But he couldn't finish.
Didn't know how.
Because whatever was happening,
Didn't feel human.
Didn't feel normal.
It felt like crossing a line you could never come back from.
And yet...
He didn't want to stop.
Outside___
CRACK.
A loud, sharp sound split the air.
Both of them froze.
This time—
Alex turned.
The door was bending inward now. The metal warped, screws popping loose one by one.
Something was pushing through.
Not just attacking,
Forcing its way in.
And then
Silence.
For one second.
Two.
Then-
BOOM!
The door exploded inward.
A body crashed through.
No—
Not just a body.
A monster.
It stood taller than the others Alex had seen.
Broader.
Stronger.
Its limbs twisted in unnatural angles, muscles bulging beneath torn, blood-soaked skin. Its jaw hung slightly open, teeth jagged, dripping with something dark and thick.
Its eyes.....
Were wrong.
Not empty like the others.
Not mindless.
There was something there.
Something aware.
Something… hunting.
It locked onto them instantly.
And smiled.
A low, guttural sound escaped its throat - half growl, half laugh.
Elara stepped back slightly.
Not in fear,
But in readiness.
Alex felt it again.
That surge.
Stronger now.
More violent.
More real.
His body moved before his mind could catch up.
He stepped forward.
Putting himself between the creature and Elara.
The thing lunged.
Fast.
Too fast.
Faster than anything he'd seen before.
But Alex,
Moved faster.
Time seemed to slow.
His vision sharpened even more, every movement of the creature unfolding in front of him like a predictable pattern.
He saw the angle.
The force.
The opening.
And then,
Something inside him ignited.
Golden light exploded around his fist.
Not bright like fire.
Not soft like sunlight.
But intense.
Raw.
Powerful.
It wrapped around his hand like a living force.
For a split second—
Even Alex hesitated.
But it was too late.
He had already moved.
His fist shot forward.
And drove straight through the creature's chest.
No resistance.
No struggle.
Just.....
Impact.
The force of it sent a shockwave through the shed.
The creature froze mid-motion.
Its expression twisted -
Confusion.
Pain.
Then nothing.
Silence fell.
Heavy.
Unreal.
The monster collapsed to the ground.
Dead.
Completely still.
Alex stood there, breathing hard.
His hand still extended.
Still glowing.
Still… trembling.
He slowly pulled it back.
Stared at it.
The golden light flickered.
Faded.
Then disappeared.
Leaving nothing behind.
No wound.
No mark.
Just—
Him.
"…What the hell…" he muttered.
Behind him,
Elara didn't move.
Didn't speak.
He turned.
And saw her staring at him.
Not afraid.
Not shocked.
But… something else.
Recognition.
"…You're changing," she said quietly.
Alex looked down at his hands again.
Then back at her.
"Yeah," he said.
His voice was calmer now.
Colder.
More certain.
"And I think you are too."
Elara stepped closer.
Slow.
Careful.
As if approaching something dangerous,
But familiar.
"We don't have time," she said, her voice steady now. "More will come."
As if on cue...
Distant growls echoed again.
Closer this time.
The field outside wasn't safe anymore.
Maybe it never was.
Alex glanced at the broken door.
Then back at her.
"Then we move," he said.
But neither of them stepped forward.
Not yet.
Because something had changed.
Between them.
Irreversibly.
Elara's gaze lingered on him.
On the faint traces of power that still seemed to linger in the air around him.
"You felt it, didn't you?" she asked.
Alex nodded slowly.
"…Yeah."
"That wasn't normal."
"No," he agreed.
A pause.
Then —
"…And I don't think it's stopping."
Elara's lips curved slightly.
Not quite a smile.
Something sharper.
More dangerous.
"Good," she said.
Alex raised an eyebrow.
"Good?"
Her eyes glowed faintly again.
"Because whatever is happening to us…" she stepped closer, her voice dropping, "we're going to need it."
Another distant scream cut through the air.
Closer now.
Reality crashing back in.
The world wasn't waiting for them to figure things out.
It was ending...
Right now.
Alex exhaled slowly.
Then nodded.
"Stay behind me," he said.
Elara tilted her head slightly.
"Or what?"
A faint smirk touched his lips.
"Or try to keep up."
For the first time —
She smiled.
And it wasn't soft.
It wasn't sweet.
It was dangerous.
"Careful, Alex," she said. "You might not like what happens if I do."
He didn't respond.
Just turned toward the open doorway.
The broken remains of the shed door lay scattered across the ground.
Beyond it,
Darkness.
Chaos.
Death.
And something waiting.
Alex stepped forward.
The moment his foot crossed the threshold,
That strange energy stirred again inside him.
Faint.
But growing.
Elara followed.
Close behind.
Not hiding.
Not afraid.
Walking into the apocalypse like she belonged in it.
Like she had been waiting for it.
And somewhere,
Deep inside both of them,
Something ancient stirred.
Watching.
Awakening.
Hungry.
