"Don't go out today, Bree. There's a storm coming," Brian told me over breakfast.
"You make it sound like I usually go out."
"Well, you have been, lately."
For better or worse, that was true.
And often with disastrous consequences.
"I'll stay home. Not like I have anything to do."
"Right. Then maybe you can make yourself useful and do these dishes," Brian said, getting up and bringing his plate to the sink.
"Huh? You are going out?"
"Yeah."
"I thought you had a day off."
"So did I."
"Eh?"
"The boss called. Someone couldn't make it today and he wanted me to cover."
"But you just said there's going to be a storm."
"He agreed to pay a bit extra."
"Well, you be careful out there."
"Right, see ya."
With that, Brian left the kitchen, but poked his head back inside to say, "Don't forget to do the dishes."
I waved him off and he was gone.
Just as I was preparing a marmalade toast for Senne, Mom walked into the kitchen, stretching her arms and yawning.
