Joshua had married Adele against his mom's will. The Martinez
family has been a family of respect and honor for decades. Mavis went
around telling everyone how Adele was an orphan with nothing, whiles
Savannah came from an influential family. Savannah was the wife to
Mavis' younger son, Kevin. Joshua didn't like how his mom treated his
wife so he left with Adele before the wedding reception. The next day,
they were about leaving for their honeymoon, when Joshua had a
business call he had been waiting for. He had to explain to his new wife
how important that business meeting was for the company, so she
agreed for him to go.
Left alone with Mavis and Savvy, Adele prepared emotionally, for
the trauma that awaited her. At lunch, Mavis ordered for her and said
"Some of my friends will be coming over. I want you to prepare a
sumptuous meal for them and of course the chef will supervise". Adele
nodded obediently. Mavis then instructed Savvy to take lunch to Kevin
at the office. After giving them instructions, she left to her room to rest.
Whiles preparing the meal, the servants helped to wash the utensils
and Savvy helped to chop the vegetables. "Won't you take brother's
food to him?" Adele asked Savvy. "Don't worry sister, Kevin said he has
a business meeting at lunch" she replied. This brought tears to her eyes
as she realized Savvy addressed her as sister. A while later, Mavis woke
up and realized Savvy was still at home. She asked with concern;
"Savannah, why didn't you take Kevin's lunch to him?" she answered
with the same reason she gave to Adele. Mavis then sent her to get her
wine from the supermarket nearby. Savvy knew what Mavis was trying
to do so she warned Adele.
After setting up the table for Mavis and her guests, Adele intended
locking herself up in the room when Mavis called out to her. "Won't
you serve us?" Mavis asked. Adele is left-handed, so she held the spoon
with her left-hand whiles serving. This angered Mavis and she began to
hail insults on Adele whiles her friends made mockery of her too. With
time, Mavis began to like Adele and realized how submissive she was.
She paid their honeymoon trip to Finland and urged Joshua to take
Adele away. Two weeks after their marriage, they finally had alone time
together. Adele didn't know what caused the change but she was
happy and thanked God for it.
On the return from their trip, Mavis had gifted them an apartment.
Joshua didn't want to leave his mother's house but Mavis assured them
that Kevin and Savvy were with her. Adele got depressed after living
together with her husband and Joshua noticed this. He then invited
Mavis over for a few days. Adele felt so happy that she prepared a
feast. Mavis arrived as scheduled and the first thing she asked was
Adele's whereabouts. Joshua came just in time so they all sat to eat.
Whiles having their meal, Mavis said: "I think it time you people give
me grandchildren". Adele almost spat out her food and Mavis chuckled.
'Why do women of today fear giving birth?' Mavis thought to herself.
Months later, Adele fell sick, so she called the family doctor over.
He came to check her and told her she was two weeks pregnant. She
informed Joshua immediately. Not long after, Mavis came with the
chauffeur to take her back to the mansion. Adele was not allowed to go
out or do a thing. She was always locked up in her room. Her ante natal
was conducted in her room and the doctor told them how unhealthy it
was for her to be locked up inside, but Mavis insisted on her actions,
and Joshua agreed to whatever his mom does, so they kept locking her
up. Savvy tried talking to Joshua about it but he ignored her.
On this particular day, Mavis went out leaving Adele in Savvy's
care. Looking at how Adele had aged in just few weeks made her sad.
"Savvy, can we please take a walk in the garden?" Adele requested. She
couldn't refuse her so gave in. They were having a good time, when
Savvy left to get her juice. When she came back, she found Mavis
helping Adele back to the room. She began to insult her and later when
Joshua and Kevin came back; it was decided that Savvy will stay away until Adele puts to bed.
