As I was filling myself with worry, everywhere around me seemed to be covered with magic.
The wizards worked together marvelously. It was unprecedented, but it seemed to come naturally to them, not to mention how flawlessly Cheryl and Ethan worked together.
What surprised me the most was how good Zahid was with all of them.
He made up for the areas that they were lacking in and evened out anything they were doing too much of. Just as Cheryl was about to use too much strength, he pulled her back at the right moment. He also aided Hirkan and Ethan during their first collaborative use of magic when they started to lose it a bit.
I had always thought that he was only good at doing whatever he wanted, but as it turned out, he made quite a decent assistant. I was only unaware of that because he’d never done it before, but when he actually tried, he was pretty good at it. He was a sneaky guy in many ways.
