The morning at Zhen Group began like any other day. Employees hurried through the halls, elevators opened and closed constantly, and the sound of keyboards filled the office floors.
Mei Lin arrived early as usual. She placed a cup of black coffee on Liang Zhen's desk before organizing the documents for the day's meetings.
She worked quietly, focused on every small detail.
But Liang Zhen barely noticed the paperwork in front of him.
His mind was somewhere else.
Ever since Chen Kai mentioned Mei Lin's son yesterday, something inside him had been restless.
Liang Rui.
Even the name sounded strangely familiar.
Liang Zhen leaned back in his chair, thinking. The feeling in his chest was uncomfortable, like a memory trying to surface but refusing to fully appear.
He didn't like uncertainty.
And the only way to remove doubt was with proof.
Later that afternoon, Mei Lin left the office early to pick up her son from school. Liang Zhen watched silently as she walked out of the building.
Once she was gone, he picked up his phone.
"Chen Kai."
His friend answered almost immediately.
"What's up?"
"I need your help," Liang Zhen said calmly.
Chen Kai chuckled lightly. "That sounds serious."
"There's something I need you to arrange."
A few hours later, Chen Kai stood outside a small elementary school near Mei Lin's apartment building. Children were running around the playground while parents waited near the gate.
Chen Kai adjusted his sunglasses and sighed.
"I can't believe the Alpha of Shanghai sent me to spy on a kid," he muttered to himself.
But he stayed anyway.
Soon the school gate opened and children started walking out.
Among them was a small boy with soft black hair and bright eyes.
Liang Rui.
The boy walked calmly toward Mei Lin, who was waiting near the gate.
Chen Kai watched carefully.
Even from a distance, he could sense something unusual.
Werewolf instincts were sharp, and sometimes they reacted without explanation.
And right now, Chen Kai felt it clearly.
The child smelled like pack.
"Interesting…" he whispered.
Later that evening, Chen Kai finally returned to Zhen Group.
Liang Zhen was still in his office, standing by the window like he often did.
"Well?" Liang Zhen asked without turning.
Chen Kai placed a small sealed envelope on the desk.
"I got it."
Liang Zhen turned around slowly.
Inside the envelope was a small strand of hair Chen Kai had managed to collect from Liang Rui's backpack.
Chen Kai crossed his arms.
"You're really serious about this, huh?"
Liang Zhen picked up the envelope.
"I want confirmation."
Chen Kai studied him for a moment.
"You think the kid might be yours?"
Liang Zhen didn't answer directly.
But his silence was enough.
Chen Kai let out a quiet breath.
"Well… if that's true, things are about to get very complicated."
Liang Zhen walked to his desk and picked up the envelope again.
Tomorrow he would send it for a DNA test.
Then he would finally know the truth.
But something deep inside him was already whispering the answer.
His wolf had never been wrong before.
Outside the glass tower, the night sky covered Shanghai in darkness.
And somewhere in a small apartment across the city, Liang Rui suddenly woke up in the middle of the night.
He sat up slowly in his bed.
For a moment, the room felt different.
His small hands tightened around the blanket.
His heart was beating faster than usual.
He didn't understand why.
But far away, in the tallest building in the city, someone had just begun searching for the truth about him.
And soon…
That truth would change all of their lives forever.
