Chapter 1 - Greater Villainess [1]

01 - Greater Villainess [1]

'Isn't she a villainess?'

'Am I dreaming?'

My mind froze static.

I blinked, my eyes fluttering even faster than I had control over.

I was in utter shock.

I tried to maintain composure but my body failed me in some departments.

'Why am I seated opposite her?'

It didn't make sense.

I should even be able to see this person at all, but here I was, looking at her.

She paid me not even a single second of attention, almost as if we are not meant to know or speak to each other.

However true that was supposed to be, I did know her.

I knew her not because we had any direct relationship or anything personal.

I knew her because she was a greater villain in a novel that I used to read—The Account of a Failed Villain.

In fact, I recalled reading the latest chapter of this novel just a few days back.

Am I dreaming?

I pinched myself hard, triggering enough pain receptors to jolt me awake but nothing different happened.

Well… except that I was in some slight pain now and my cheek was a little red.

She still didn't bat an eyelid in my direction despite this.

'There's no way…'

I tried to force myself to believe that it was not her, but she looked exactly like the character illustration had shown.

Tall, slender with a bosomy, and a cold beauty that still pierced the hearts of men.

She had flowing silver hair. Long pointy ears, and a pair of ice cold blue eyes that expressed nothing as I looked at her.

She was truly befitting of the moniker she eventually acquired—the Cold Empress.

As if confirming my speculations, I heard a chime inside my head that was discomforting.

I had never experienced it before.

Then…

[Ding…]

A bright blue screen appeared over this lady, revealing some pieces of information about her.

[Name: Eris DeLorentis]

[Race: Elf]

[Category: Greater Villainess]

[Bond: 0 ❤︎]

Seeing the data that floated over her head, I swallowed.

That's messed up!

Really messed up!

Why the hell am I encountering a greater villainess?

****

Yep! That's me—now reborn as the webnovel character, Link Remington.

You must be wondering how I got myself in such a messy situation with a greater villainess in the first place.

I haven't gotten a hang of it yet but let me take you back a little bit.

I used to be alive on Earth like you, and quite an avid reader and enjoyer of basically anything fiction.

Movies, anime, cartoons, manhwa, comics, webtoons and novels, etc.

In whatever form they came, I devoured the contents.

The crazy thing was even the fact that I didn't discriminate.

I enjoyed it all, all of the possible genres that came my way.

From action genre to fantasy, to hentai, to romance. Every single one of them soothed my literary taste buds.

I thought I would remain on this path, living life like this until life really hit me hard.

I graduated from the university and my responsibilities multiplied, almost as if they had laid an ambush while waiting for me to graduate.

Gradually, I stopped having time to do the things I once enjoyed doing and the longer this lasted, the less attached I was to my old hobbies.

That was until I came across the webnovel—The Account of a Failed Villain.

It was long and immersive.

I enjoyed reading every bit of it, so much so that I couldn't believe that it was soon to come to an end.

If I had to make a choice of a world to escape to, it would definitely be the world of that novel.

Looks like some supreme being took my wish literally and did a divine thing, summoning me into the world of the novel.

I have consumed enough novels to understand how transmigration works without giving it much thought.

Clearly I had transmigrated, and right into the body of someone who decides to have something to do with a greater villainess one this fateful day.

Link Remington.

What sort of luck do you even have?

****

Eris said no words to me, neither did I to her.

I simply sat there after accepting my reality.

I watched her. Monitored her demeanor. Observed her body language.

However, there was nothing.

She was like a book with nothing but blank pages.

…Unreadable.

That was what made her dangerous in the story.

No one expected what her next move would be.

Eris DeLorentis, one of the greater antagonists of the novel.

A daughter of the noble family—House DeLorentis.

Her cold, emotionless nature had been as a result of her upbringing.

Eris was brought up experiencing the best things of life and given the best education possible in this world at every age.

As one would expect, the best is also expected of a person who received all of this.

For Eris DeLorentis, failure was not a word worth knowing or experiencing.

There was no room for excuses or setbacks.

Only victories and successes. No in-betweens.

Eris knew that well. The DeLorentis did not pardon such.

Little did they know that it was this constant need to always win and never fall behind that was responsible for driving Eris into madness.

The pressure had gotten to her after that incident.

The unfathomable acts she commits thereafter earned her the foreboding nickname "The Cold Empress".

A name that was fitting for the ruthless noble that she became.

As I stared at her, I thought, 'Good thing she didn't notice anything. Else I risk being attacked on the spot and she isn't someone I can afford to fight now. Not until I completely understand what is going on with me.'

I scratched the side of my head and sighed.

'I still have a lot of questions that need answering. Additionally, if things happen like it commonly does in isekai works, I should be expecting a system soon.'

While I was still in thought, the carriage where I and Eris were sitting came to a sudden halt.

Given that I was seated at the back of the carriage, I found myself lunging forward as our vehicle bounced through the rough road.

'Fuck! Couldn't even give us any heads up,' I cursed in my mind.

Raising my eyes upwards, I met Eris' gaze.

My eyes widened a tad bit at the sight in front of me.

Round balls of skin and fat came between my eyes and her face, but I was still able to catch a glimpse.

This was not the usual Eris.

This was not the cold personality she was known to have.

Our gazes met and lingered, and after a few seconds, I realized why her face was flushing red.

I was thrown forward after the sudden, unannounced stop, only to find myself falling towards her and landing on her bosoms.
