"Why the sudden decision?" Adam asked confused.
"You know those tasks I told you about that let me unlock sets? I just got one but the reward is not a new set but a way to stash my stuff. I could delay like I was originally but it's better to get this covered now rather than later right?" I asked with a grin.
"The logic is sound. Before we leave however I suggest using the vaults resources to improve the motorized vehicle in the garage. My scans of it's construction show several areas for improvement. It would only take roughly an hour to complete the modifications. Additionally this still leaves the issue of the Orcs unresolved." Adam said.
"You can do that!? No wait of fucking course you can, it'd be weird as shit if you COULDN'T!" I said excitedly.
I didn't need any further convincing. I wheeled the bike over to the buried hatch and dug the thing out again before popping it like a cork. I was in the process of figuring out how to stuff it down the narrow hole when Adam stopped me.
"I should have specified that the modifications would be done from the garage. You need merely keep the vault door open long enough for the parts to be taken out." Adam said sounding a little dumbfounded that I was literally going to stuff the bike in the hatch.
I chuckled in embarrassment "Ah, yeah that sounds more like it. I'll uh, just put this back in the garage." I said as I wheeled the bike back into the garage.
I hopped down the hatch and popped open the vault where five human shaped bot bodies were being controlled by Adam with the parts in cases they were carrying.-
They left the hatch in an orderly fashion and piled into the garage where they got to work. Almost immediately I was rendered speechless because the "slight" modifications I was expecting was a full overhaul of the bike. Nearly half the original parts were stripped off it for new ones that looked different and even the bikes frame was adjusted and changed. When the bots headed back to the vault and the door shut behind them the bike no longer looked like a bike but a two wheeled tank. It had an aerodynamic layer of armor over all it's vitals. The shocks, tires and fusion core were all swapped with better things made by the vault and most of the engine had been as well.
"This is more than a small modification Adam, this is basically an entirely different vehicle." I said with a sigh.
"It is far superior to the previous design. This one has been modified for all dry terrains and even muddy ones though full aquatic submersion would cause it to stall. The armored exterior layer also serves as cover from radiation and acid rains in addition to being highly resistant to both energy projectiles and ballistic weaponry." Adam said proudly.
"Are you sure that armor isn't weighing the bike down?" I asked unsure.
"Positive. The engine and frame have been enhanced to withstand several tons of extra weight. The mere hundred pounds that armor adds is barely even registered. Consequently however the horsepower of the vehicle has grown beyond the standard speedometer it had and thus has been fitted with a new accurate one." Adam said calmly.
I looked at the speedometer speechlessly.
'Bro that says three hundred and fifty at top speed. Is this bloody thing even safe to drive!?' I questioned mentally.
"Like I'm not doubting you or anything but like, is this thing even safe to drive at those speeds? The terrain is kinda ass you know. If I hit a pothole will I just straight up die?" I couldn't help but ask.
"Your concern is understandable but unnecessary. The armor you are wearing would keep you intact even if you fell from the stratosphere. The shock absorbers have been made to accept sudden shifts in terrain depth without effecting the rest of the vehicle so long as the entire wheel and front framework is not within the hole. You will at most experience a slight dip." Adam said confidently.
"Alrighty then. You two follow behind me and you six stay here and keep anything nasty from moving in while I'm gone." I said commanding my summons before mounting the bike.
I flipped the switch and like a beast waking up it rumbled to life and I backed it out of the garage. Once clear of the door I shut the place up fully and locked it. On the horse of my soldier guy was the stored jugs of water and loot. All set and ready to go I revved the engine and let go of the brake. -
Like a cheetah unleashed the bike shot forward across the wrecked road going from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye and the speed was only climbing. I had to lean down as the air smashed into me like it was trying to rip me off the bike. Even on the basically shattered road the bike barely transmitted any of the bumpiness to me so it was a smooth ride. I laughed as the world blurred at the edges as I pushed this beast of a machine to it's limit. My summons couldn't even hope to keep up behind me. Even the Vault Skirge that was a lot faster than the previous bike was left behind.-
Sand and dust from the desert to my sides were ripped up by the air pressure of my passing leaving a long cloud of tan "clouds" in my wake. I did slow down a lot after thoroughly testing the bikes new performance so my summons weren't left behind too far. Admittedly I was slightly impatient to get to Vegas so I could store all this stuff rather than carry it on me. -
"Once you get to Vegas what will you do?" Adam asked as I drove at a fast but not unreasonable speed.
"Depends on which side of Vegas I show up on. Since I'm roughly heading south and then hanging a hard left U-turn to actually cross into Vegas territory I should pass through an NCR checkpoint at the south western end of it all. Assuming I don't get held up there, which is doubtful mind you, I'll be heading for Goodsprings. From there I can't say yet." I said honestly.
"Is this Goodsprings place important somehow?" Adam asked curiously.
I chuckled "I can't say yet. Depending on what I find there the answer can be wildly different. Hard to explain, you'll see what I mean eventually." I said mysteriously.
"I don't like you very much right now." Adam said almost pouting.
"I get that sometimes." I said with a laugh.
