Chapter 23 - Goodsprings

I moseyed on over to the Vikki and Vance casino and pushed the door open casually. All the still lingering residents of the town looked at me with a mix of respect and healthy wariness as I walked in. Johnson Nash walked up to me with a smile though.

"Well i'll be a monkey's uncle, you actually went and cleared out those Gangers! Recued Beagle too it seems. As promised here's your caps and of course that discount you wanted. I imagine you'll be putting it to use to offload the Gangers stuff for caps right?" he said as he handed over a cloth pouch that jingled.

"Nah, I need supplies instead. Stimpacks, chems, that sort of stuff. I'll take a look at anything unique you've got though." I said still grinning.

"Unique huh? I just so happen to have on old eyebot back over at the courier office across the way. No idea what's wrong with it but if you want it I can sell it to you for cheap." he said after a moment of thought.

"My models would be far better than any eyebot." Adam said with a hint of disdain.

"No need to get all uppity about it, was just saying what I've got." Nash said placatingly.

"Oh no, sorry about that. That was my traveling companion, Adam. He sort of specializes in robotics and apparently looks down on any he didn't make." I explained slightly embarrassed.

"You don't say? He on some sort of internal radio channel or something like that?" Nash asked curiously.

"Something like that. I'll still take the bot though. Got a good feeling about it. You good with that Adam?" I said.

"I believe it inefficient but if you want to waste your time then by all means." Adam said sounding a little annoyed.

"Wonderful! Now then where should I put all of my loot for sorting and price evaluation?" I asked Nash.

He led me back to a room full of safes on the wall that he explained was where they stored their stuff. I had to admit it was a nice set up as robbing the place would be a pain in the ass. Assuming each safe had a different code and key then figuring them all out would take forever. And all for a payout that might be shit!-

Once I knew where I needed to put my loot for this trade I left the casino and grabbed all the stuff I was willing to part with from my soldier guys packs along with the stuff in my inventory and carried it in a shirt turned sack back into the casino. None of it was the advanced stuff from the vault so it wasn't worth too much. Just came up to five hundred and seventy three caps after my discount was added on. I traded it for the bot I knew was none other than the companion bot from the game ED-E and three stimpacks. -

With the trade done I collected my new bot and headed out of Primm. North specifically as my destination was always Goodsprings. Once I was far enough that prying eyes wouldn't notice I put my soldier guy and all the stuff on the horse away in my inventory. This just left me and my bug out and visible. I was already going to be drawing all sorts of attention merely because of the bike and armor so having the rest out seemed unnecessary. The interesting part was that I could still sort of feel my summoned cards in my inventory.-

The road to Goodsprings was nothing all that special. It was just as fucked up as the rest of the roads and had exactly two notable things along it before I reached it. The first was a prewar waste area with two large trucks with trailers that had been capsized when the bombs fell. This spot had been turned into a powder ganger camp to ambush travelers. There was only four of the fuckers there though so I killed them easily enough without even bothering to stop. The second spot was a wooden shack called "Jean's skydiving" that I had no damned clue how it got it's name as there was nothing related to skydiving there at all.-

The landscape began to change as I neared Goodsprings as the town was built near the rocky cliffs and the land reflected this. Tall rocky red and grey cliffs, sand dunes and three water collection set ups just outside town. The noise from the bike drew out the local critters and I thought they were almost cute, if only they weren't aggressive little shits. I was of course referring to the geckos. These ones were roughly a foot to two feet tall and walked bipedal on their back legs. They had wide sharp toothed mouths and huge eyes and frills on their heads just behind their ear holes. -

Their skin was a sort of dark blue on their backs and creamy white on their bellies. I knew they actually came in different colors and sizes depending on the species and there was even a species that could breath fire. I let my bug take care of them as I continued on my way to Goodsprings. I soon reached the town itself and slowed down to take it in. It wasn't pretty by any means but the place was little different than in the game. -

There were about a dozen or two old prewar houses that had seen better days with a few having boarded up doors and windows. There was crops growing in a few yards, bighorner(giant horned ram things) in pens and people working with both. My arrival was noticed immediately as eyes were distracted from their work and drawn to the sight of me and my bike rolling up. I parked my bike next to the three others broke down in front of the saloon and got off as an old deeply dark skinned man in overalls with a straw hat watched from the chair outside the saloon.-

"Howdy! You wouldn't be able to tell me if this is Goodsprings would you?" I asked the old guy as friendly as I could.

"That's right. You from out west?" the old man asked curiously as he eyed my armor and bike.

"More or less. Was headed for Vegas to try my luck." i said casually.

"You're going the wrong way then. Not unless you want to deal with Radscorpions, Deathclaw and Cazadors. Safer to circle around." he said seriously.

"Well fuck me I guess. Thanks for the heads up, that would have been nasty." I said thanking him sincerely.

I of course already knew that route was a suicide trip from the game but it would be weird if a stranger to these lands knew that without being told. I was already going to cause a lot of wariness because of my stuff so the least I could do was play the part of tourist.
