Chapter 15
Dafa's POV: The Quiet Crumble
My father remained standing, his posture that of a man whose entire understanding of the world had been upended. The look he gave me was no longer pity or parental guilt, but something quieter, far more calculating. I guess, he wasn't looking at me with shame anymore.
"But... the military?" Mrs. Halton finally whispered, her voice cracked. It was the only protest she could muster, a weak grasp at the narrative she had cherished for so long. "We're a business family. This... this is a distraction. A pointless thing with your life."
I turned to her, the steel in me unbothered by her old tricks.
"It is a purpose. A thing this family has never understood beyond its bottom lines," I said, my tone calm.
My gaze returned to my father. "The marriage registration isn't a formality to me. It's a process of integrity. The military demands it. My oath demands it. I will not delegate it."
