"You!" Jaai spun around all of a sudden.
At this moment, he didn't care about the charade that he wanted to keep up. He didn't care about the fact that he was trying to pretend not to remember anything.
Was this not the length of it? Since when has Elaine been thinking of this plot? This didn't even look like something that came out of the blue. It looked like something that was premeditated and finalized!
"How dare you say those things about me?" He stomped to the maid.
He didn't want to grab her and pull her up. He knew that she was put up to this. Someone in the family must have threatened her to implicate him! He knew for a fact. So, he didn't want to take his frustration out on her! Yet, lying on him like this was just way over the top.
"Why are you lying so hard? How much were you paid?" Jaai couldn't hold himself back anymore.
Suddenly, Marcus stomped towards Jaai and pushed him back.
"Even with proofs! Are you really going to deny it? Will you deny it until your last breath?!" Marcus slapped Jaai across the face.
Jaai's eyes had turned red in this moment. The situation had escalated so quickly within the twinkling of an eye.
"Are you going to confess now?" Marcus was all over his face. "Will you confess or should I beat it out of you?!"
Marcus has been quiet ever since Elaine had started with the show. Even him was shocked at the rate at which his mother was going. He was clueless earlier because he didn't know where this was headed.
When Elaine had stopped him from beating Jaai back at the hall, he had thought that she was getting fond of Jaai. Also, when she had gripped the face of Jaai, looking very concerned as she asked about his memory, he didn't know what else to think. He believed that his mother had finally been won over by Jaai.
But as soon as he saw the maid, he easily caught up with the plan of his mother. He was not clueless anymore. Although he was impressed by how creative she was, he quickly stepped in to push everything through.
After all, nobody loves the useless Jaii.
"Are you really going to keep mute?" He bellowed. "Then I'll break your teeth!!" He drew a fist and drove it towards Jaai's face.
Jaai's reflex kicked in at once, and he stopped the fist. He gripped the fist lightly, but Marcus seemed to be in quite a lot of pain.
He squeezed Marcus's wrist and turned him to the other side. Then he pushed Marcus away. Marcus crashed away, falling to the ground.
"Marcus!" Jada quickly ran to his aid.
Jaai's eyes had turned dead red this time. He turned towards Elaine. Elaine kept her mean face. She didn't want to falter. She didn't want to lose the image that she had created.
Jaai walked closer to her. Elaine didn't move.
"I didn't do that. I have never stayed in a room with the maid, let alone touch her. How can I ever sleep with her!!!" Jaai ended the speech with a loud voice.
"How dare you shout at my mom?!" Marcus was back on his feet again. "Are you trying to accuse my mother of lying?"
Marcus couldn't bear the fact that Jaai had pushed him to the floor. He wanted revenge. He wanted to beat the loser to a pulp. Of course, he believed that he could take Jaai on one-on-one.
"Enough, Marcus." Elaine warned softly. Marcus didn't approve of it but was impressed that she wasn't yelling at him this time.
"You said you didn't do it?" Elaine asked Jaai.
"I swear on my life! I didn't do it." Jaai tried to catch his breath. "Look at this."
Jaai walked away from Elaine, and all eyes followed him. He went to the maid and leaned towards her.
"Look into my eyes and swear that I slept with you." Jaai asked with all intentions.
The maid slowly tilted her head to look him in the eyes, but she couldn't dare to. She dropped her gaze and looked in another direction.
"See?" Jaai called.
Everyone else sighed.
"She cannot look me in the eyes! How can you even believe what she's saying!" Jaai yelled, walking back to Elaine.
"But you want us to believe what you are saying?" Elaine asked Jaai.
"Huh? Of course." Jaai didn't even think that question was necessary.
"Okay." Elaine answered dryly.
"Mom..." Marcus couldn't hide his confusion.
Everyone watched as Elaine walked away from Jaai towards the maid. She picked the lady's chin up.
"Look at me. Don't be scared." She urged the maid.
The maid, scared to death, looked at her slowly, but she couldn't dare to look her in the eyes.
"Can you remember what happened yesterday to you?" She asked the maid.
The maid nodded at once.
Elaine stood up and pointed at Jada,
"You?" Jada nodded.
"You?" Gerard nodded.
"You?" She pointed at Marcus next. "As clear as the day." Marcus replied.
Then she turned towards Jaai.
"How about you?" Elaine asked Jaai.
"Huh?" Jaai was caught off guard by the question.
"Tell me. Do you remember what happened to you yesterday?" Elaine repeated in a plain manner. "Everyone else did."
Jaai realised what had just happened. True! He's supposed to have a memory loss. Although he recalled everything that happened yesterday vividly. In fact, the scenes of what happened earlier today were in Oled display in his mind. But he couldn't admit to them. He sighed.
"No." He shook his head.
"But you want me to believe you over the rest of the people here?" Elaine asked in annoyance.
Jaai couldn't react in a specific way. He just stared at Elaine. He was looking straight into her eyes. He knew that she didn't like him from the onset. But he could never have imagined that she had been waiting all her life to spin something like this on him.
Sometimes, to know a real person, you need to fall into a ditch.
"Now go sign that paper before I take your news to the general meeting." Elaine warned him.
"See, you might not know anything because you've lost your memory." Elaine added. "You see my father, grandpa, loves you a lot. You don't want him to hate you forever. If I tell him what you did to my daughter, her granddaughter whom he loves equally, there's no imagination to what he could do."
She walked closer to Jaai and pat his shoulder.
"Now sign the paper. Then, run an errand for me." She added.
Jaai didn't need a soothsayer to tell him that he had already been defeated. There was no arguing.
He walked towards the small table where the file had been dropped.
He leaned towards it and picked up a pen. He tilted the pen towards the paper. Before signing, he took a minute out and looked around at the people around him.
If there was anything evident in their looks. It was desperation. It was anxiety! They couldn't wait for him to sign the paper. They looked like caged birds who were dying to spread their wings! And he, Jaai, was the bars of iron holding them back.
He looked away from them and then put the pen to paper. He signed the divorce paper.
He could hear everyone sighing deeply as soon as he signed the paper.
He lifted his body and walked to Elaine. Every eye was on him. Everyone was anticipating what next he was going to do. Marcus was getting ready. Perhaps Jaai might want to fight.
When Jaai got to Elaine, he fell on his knees in front of her,
"Forgive me, mother. I must have caused you a lot of inconvenience." Jaai bowed.
