I woke up to sunlight slicing through the curtains like a knife.


My head throbbed. My body ached. Every muscle felt like it had been wrung out and left to dry.


I blinked at the ceiling, trying to remember where I was.


I sat up slowly, my hands pressing against my temples. Memories from last night flooded back, the ambush, the chase, the gunfire, the safe house. And then... the bathroom.


Kaito's hands on me. His voice in my ear. The weight of him pinning me against the wall. Viktor finding me in such a pathetic state. 


I shoved the thought away before it could take root. I didn't want to think about it. Didn't want to feel it. So I did what I always did, I buried it. Deep. Where it couldn't touch me.


I grabbed my phone off the nightstand. 11:47 AM.
