I stared at the room Kairen had just left, second floor, room 7, Red Lotus Lounge, and something cold settled in my gut.
Just a meeting.
Bullshit.
I'd seen enough liars in my life to know what one looked like. Kairen's voice had been too tight, his posture too stiff, his eyes avoiding mine like I was a searchlight he needed to dodge. He'd met with someone. Someone he didn't want me to know about.
And that made it my business.
But pushing him now would only make him shut down harder. So I let it go. For now.
I turned and walked back to the car, my jaw tight, my mind already working through the angles. Kairen followed a few steps behind, silent, his hands shoved deep in his pockets like he was trying to disappear into himself.
