Fredrick took the pen from Eva, shaking and looked at the paper. His eyes caught something and a smirked formed on his lips and he boldly handed it back to the nurse after signing it. The nurse nodded slightly and left, leaving then to their drama. Eva looked confused at Fredrick's sudden change in demeanor. "Why are you smiling?" she asked. "Fredrick looked at her, his smile now stretching from ear to ear "Oh me? I just realized we've all been panicking over the nothing." He further explained.
"The papers you saw in my hands were actually his report. It turns out he's not poisoned. A large dose of Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) was found in his system. It's a sleep aid for adults but can cause seizures for teenagers. And I so happen to have some in my study. He must've collapsed a while later downstairs."
"Eva sensed that Frederick was trying to avoid the authorities as much as he could and she wasn't convinced in the slightest that he was saying the truth. "what did you sign then? Medical reports aren't signed… at least not by civilians." Eva's eyes narrowed, waiting for the excuse he'd pull up this time.
Fredrick smirked. "We didn't follow the proper procedure for signing the patient in; since we treated the situation with the assumption of poisoning and potential death."
Eva clenched her jaw and gritted her teeth. This could've been an end to the whole drama. She sighed and kept her cool; at least she had proven her innocence. Fredrick headed inside the hospital to check on Luke and Lizzy followed him, constantly looking back to make sure Eva wasn't there to chop her head off.
Eva let out a soft sigh and started walking out of the hospital parking lot. "W-where are you going?" her mom, who had speechlessly watched the entire night drama, said as she found her voice.
"Why would I want to stay with people who think I am the cause of their problems?"
"Well, you are the cause of mine and you never left." Her mom said jokingly, Eva just rolled her eyes and walked away.
Her mom chuckled a bit before the smile on her face slowly faded as she sunk deep into thought.
Eva walked home, when she got home. "Lizzy seemed pretty confident that I was the culprit so she had to have evidence or at least make the evidence" Eva thought, walking up to her room. She opened the door and scanned everything in the room.
She sighted the bottle on her side table. She looked at it, half empty, studying the water inside. It looked normal and then she grabbed it and shook it as hard as she could. She stopped and set the bottle down, watching it again. It had small clusters of foam on the surface and the water now had a slightly milky appearance. "when did she have time to do this?" Eva wondered "She's 12 and already this devilish"
She opened the bottle and sniffed the air over the open cap. Her eyes widened to the familiar smell. She had once come across Fredrick's medicine cabinet in his office while digging for files and may have sniffed some out of curiosity. Lizzy must've known about this medicine and is the only one who could've enter Fredrick's office without much of an issue. "That little-"
She looked behind her side table and there was a small piece of paper, neatly folded and it seemed to have something small in it. She opened it and she clenched her jaw. It contained drugs, a few pills of which some had been crushed to dust.
A while later, the rest of the family got back home and met Eva sitting on the couch. Lizzy eye lit up, like she suddenly remembered something.
"Why don't we check her room, Dad?" Lizzy suggested. Fredrick looked at her and decided not to, he already wanted to drop this case as he didn't want to risk being exposed. Besides, he already had a better plan To get rid of Eva.
"I don't have the strength for that Frankly, there's no need; the doctor already identified the drug that was found in his system, so he may have taken it from my office-" "-that you forbade everyone from entering and you keeps locked every now and then?" Lizzy interrupted. Fredrick's eyes widened slightly. She was right, no one goes there… So, how?
Lizzy smirked, knowing she had already triggered her father's curiousity. Fredrick walked upstairs. "Let's see." Eva's eyes darted to Lizzy, Fredrick and then rolled back to the TV. Rose was tired of the whole thing and left for the kitchen to make dinner.
Fredrick came down from the stairs half and hour later and Lizzy followed looking enraged. By the look of her face, Eva could tell what happened. She smiled and proceeded to her room.
....
It was night and Eva has decided not to come out of her room. She heard a knock on her door "It is open" she whilst lying down on her bed.
Rose walked in, "you really are serious about this 'not coming out my room' thing?" Eva turned to look at her and saw a tray of food in her hand, Rose dropped it on her desk and left
"Poison has been a frequent happening in this house, do you think eating that is a good idea?" Eva said looking directly into her mom eyes like she was searching for something
"Well I wouldn't want to poison you before your eighteen birthday this weekend and I will love for you to see how I expose this family in court. Although, that choice is yours to make" she said before she left the room
Eva looked at the food and thought. If she died, it wouldn't be a bad thing, maybe she would be reborn as an heiress or something. She let out a deep breath before digging in
As soon as she was done, she wanted to wait for everyone downstairs to go to their various rooms before heading to the kitchen. She didn't realms when she slept off while waiting.
She was shocked to see the tray of food she finished still filled with food when she woke up. she smiled a bit
Things remained as they were. Even after Luke came back, Eva refused to leave her room, she didn't even go to school at all.
It was a day before her birthday.
The next time the tray was bought to her room, she was stunned by the cupcake with candle on it and the card saying happy birthday
She knew why her mother sent this earlier than the day itself, She had been seeing her lawyer for a while and had been busy lately while Fredrick refused to leave any of his kids unwatched, so on most of the days, Eva was left home alone.
She woke up on her birthday with a knock on her door. She lazily stood up and open the door and to her biggest surprise, it was Jayne.
"How dare you not come to school with our telling- Ahhh" Jayne yelled, backing away a bit.
"What?" Eva asked in confusion.
"Have you seen yourself in a mirror?" Jayne asked "Did you do something to your hair?"
"No, you just woke me up now and of course I didn't do anything to my hair" Eva responded, still rubbing her eyes from sleep
"Oh, well, you need to look into it ASAP"
Jayne pulled Eva to a mirror and the moment she saw her reflection, her eyes widened in shock. She reached out to touched it. Her hair was white, whiter than anything she had ever seen and her eyes were now Crimson red, glowing like pools of fire.
"D-don't panic, there should be a reasonable explanation for all of this" Jayne said trying to calm the now panicked Eva down, a voice spoke behind them
"Trust me, there is"
Eva and Jayne turned to face him
"Zeiran! W-what are you doing here?" Eva said
Jayne stared at Zeiran, taking in his divine beauty before turning to Eva "Wait you know this beauty and you didn't tell me?"
"Thanks, unfortunately I can't say the same about you" Zeiran replied, his eyes were cold and dead and He
"Never mind; I take my words back, disgusting personality is such a turn off" Jayne said turning away from Zeiran with a pout
"Awn, thanks" Zeiran forced a small sarcastic smile.
"it wasn't a compliment"
Has Jayne and Zeiran argued, Eva kept looking at herself in the mirror her hair was longer and white, how does brown turn to white and her blue eyes was now glowing red like a vampire.
She open her mouth just to see if there were any fangs. She didn't and suddenly, it hit her.
She straedinto the mirror, her heart racing. She whispered "it was you!"
"Stop it" Eva yelled to stop bothering Jayne and Zeiran for arguing, "You" Eva pointed at Zeiran
"You had the explanation for all of this from the very beginning, didn't you?" She continued
"Eric, the guy I met in Luke's room, at the hospital, that night… it was all you…"
Zeiran smiled "Smart, just like your mother." Eva stared at him with burning intensity, waiting for his explanation.
"Who and what are you? and why have you been with me since I got into this house?" Eva asked hands crossed.
