Chapter 14 - Something fishy.

"That's the end of the class, my lady," Dan said, closing the book with a light thud.

Serena sunk into the chair, she was exhausted from all what she learnt just today, even though she already knew them, she had to pretend she didn't know it. When she was in the mermaid kingdom, she was well educated. Something she had kept from everyone, even when she was with Marcus.

"You must be tired already. Do you mind water?" Dan asked Serena, to have her nod her head with her eyes still closed shut.

Dan quickly stood up from the chair, walking over to the table where a jug stood. Slowly, he poured water into the glass cup, filling it up.

"I'll be in the palace everyday, till you familiarize the alphabets," he said, walking towards her. His steps slow and deliberately, not wanting to spill any water.

Serena nodded, she was exhausted from pretending, her throat was as dried as a desert. Dan proceeded to teach her how to write down the Alphabet, Without being suspected, she had to write with her left hand so the letters would come out flying instead of it being on a straight line. How long would she keep up with this?

"Here you go," he said, handing the cup over to her. Serena snatched the cup from him, gulping every single drop of water, till the cup was empty. Her throat had felt itchy because of how much she spoke, she couldn't remember the last time she had to speak for so long. She used the sleeve of her dress to wipe away the droplets of water by her mouth, Dan brought his handkerchief forward, slowly dabbing the water away from her chin.

Her face instantly flushed red as she pushed his hand slightly. "T-there is no need for that, I can do it myself." she said with a light stammer, her face burning even brighter.

"Of course you can," Dan replied, his smile broadening. He tucked his handkerchief back into his pocket, noticing Serena staring hard at him. "Is there anything I can help my lady with?" He inquired, his eyes locking with her green eyes.

"You're not a Vampire," Serena blurted out, before covering her mouth. She didn't mean to say it out loud, but Fan's demeanor was nothing like that of the king's, lord Marcus's or even Arthur's. He didn't have any intimidating look on his face and he barely had an aura around him.

Dan laughed out for a moment, while Elysia stared at him with questions lurking her eyes. "Yes, my lady. I am not a vampire, but a human, just like yourself," he replied. Serena had thought as much, "The king had exclusively requested a human governor for you," she heard him say.

"W-why would he do that?" Serena asked, her brows knotting together to form a frown. "I'm just a mere servant he rescued, I don't mean anything to him," she sighed. Dan noticed her expressing saddening and the hair on his body stood in fright.

"My lady, I'm sure you mean a lot to the king, or perhaps the king is just being generous," he replied. Serena ooked up at him, staring into his Amber eyes.

"A generous vampire?" She huffed, disgust evident on her face. She had never hated vampires before until one captured her from the sea and tortured her. Though the king was known to be ruthless, he's been treating her well and let's talk about the princess. She's been noting but sweet to her, she even stopped by to bring her snacks just as she said. Maybe not all vampires are as heartless as him, the ones in Alexander's palace are very calm.

Dan moved closer to her, the sudden closeness made every hair on her body stand, she was well aware of their closeness and deep down if felt as if she was doing something bad.

"There're somethings left unknown, the king is just being generous." Dan said in a hushed tone trying to keep her calm.

Serena nodded, she moved back a little bit, Dan noticed and also stepped back scratching the back of his head nervously. Just before any of them could process what to say, the door swung open and Arthur barged in unannounced.

His eyes moved from Serena to Dan, he didn't fail to notice the tense atmosphere and the nervous look on both their faces.

"Arthur. We were just about to round off the class." Dan said nervously as he packed his bags.

"That's good." He eyes moved from Dan to Serena. "Shall we?" he asked to which she nodded. He watched as she quickly adjusted herself, her walked in with them looking nervous and all. What happened between them, he sure hoped nothing happened between them cause Alexander wouldn't be happy.

"I'll take my leave." Dan said and with that, he took his bag and walked out of the room leaving just Arthur and Serena.

"Nothing happened between us." Serena blurted out, she didn't know why but if felt as if she was reporting herself to her father.

"I trust you wouldn't do anything fishy." Arthur said and she nodded. Thankfully he didn't think that way, she thought to herself.

"Are you still giving me a tour of the palace?" She asked.

He lips tipped into a smile before he lowered his head to check his clock. "Sure, we still have a decent time before lunch." He said. "Shall we." he opened the door and stepped aside waiting for her to walk ahead before he followed behind her closing the door.
